So I've heard.

OMG, the exact same thing happened to me a while ago! Expect it was a beach, not a sports carnival.

Ahahhaha that's like the funniest thing I've read all day.

We're not sure, but we think we were hit by a very minor tornado this morning. The conditions were certainly favorable, there was hail, and it completely destroyed my yard. We've spent the entire day raking up leaves.

You know what's really weird? That freak storm only hit half of our area. We didn't have much more than a breeze. On the other hand, I know of a neighborhood that was entirely without power for half the day, and there were tree branches, etc, down everywhere.
Shame it didn't take out the power for the high school, huh? ;)

That was my neighborhood :) Right down the street from my house, a MASSIVE tree fell over and crushed a metal swingset. There's caution tape everywhere. We also lost power for a few hours (although I think my calling Centerpoint soon after it happened helped with that). At any rate, I was back to sleep by the time they turned the power back on.

I have friends in other areas of the neighborhood who took no damage at all. Weird, huh? The scariest part was my mom banging on my door (I lock my room) and yelling for me to go into our cellar under the stairs. Apparently, the hail woke my mom up, but then she heard the characteristic "train whistle" sound of a tornado. It was too dark to see anything, but several members of my family and some of my friends heard it.

If you ever think you're in a tornado, basements and areas under the stairs are the safest parts of the house. If you're watching TV, you'll normally have a lot of advance warning, but it's tough to get to a safe place when you're half-asleep.

Creepy. We always had to hide in the smallest closet of our house when hurricanes came when I was little. The closet under our stairs held a bunch of VHSs and other stuff on shelves. So it wasn't a good place to be. ;) Now I don't have stairs, so closets do just fine.

Well, the weather here is extremely hot and dry - can I just tell you that there are like 4 wildfires somewhat nearby? Smelling and seeing the smoke is really obnoxious :/

I choose other because missouri is a bit like a gender confused teenager.

In other words, one day it'll be sunny and nearly 80, and the next is monsooning and 45 degrees.

Okay so the weather has been lovely this week, as soon as I get two days off from work, it turns horrible again! :x

Mind you, the other week at work, it was raining at the front of the store, yet nice and sunny round the side. Buh?

A weather radio will wake you up and can give you a few moments' notice to get to a safe place before the tornado hits. When the tornado hit Florida at 3am last year, an elderly couple heard their radio and went into their hallway; a few minutes later a tree crashed through their roof and landed on their bed. We got one last March, and it goes off during severe thunderstorm warnings, tornado watches and warnings, etc. During St. Patrick's Day weekend (when the tornado hit Atlanta), it went off about ten times as the different cells went through, and then I'd check on my computer to see if I was in the area where I had to actually seek shelter (only twice did I have to do so) -- the radio gives details over a large enough area that sometimes I get alerts about thunderstorms that never get closer than 15-30 miles away. But all in all, I think it was a decent investment at ~$25.

It's been cool and cloudy here the last few days. By mid-May, I've usually been hitting the pool for a month, but this year, I haven't even had to turn on my air-conditioning yet. We actually only turned the heat off for good on May 1st (though it only came on at night when it got cold for the last month or so). Summer, where art thou?

IT'S RAINING!!!1 <3
I actually missed the freezing cold rain. I swear, a few days of sweltering heat in places with bad air conditioning is enough to make anyone welcome a downpour.

It is raining at the moment but thankfully there is no washing on the washing line trying to get to dry.
