Too... hyper... to... sleep

I've been awake for 15 hours... help.I just can't sleep!

Well, technically there are 24 hours in a day, and 15 hours awake is not a big deal.... :roll:

I suggest you take a warm bath or read a book, especially if it is late at night. Just keep reading, you will surely fall asleep eventually.

Let yourself relax. Turn on a fan or something that will make some light noise and count to 500. If you think about it, you won't go to sleep.

That reading thing works like a charm. Reading tires me out, its the only way I can sleep. Sometimes I stay up the whole night just because I dont have a book to read. O.o

If you have a boring History textbook or any other textbook for that matter, I'd suggest that. Works best if you actually need to study it for a test or something similar. :P

As some of the others have already said, 15 hours isn't really that long of a time, you could leave it another hour or two and provided you got up the same time tomorrow as what you did today you'd still be getting the recommended number of hours of sleep :)

One of the main problems with insomniacs is that once they start losing sleep, they start thinking and worrying about it, their minds keep ticking and basically they then can't settle down to sleep - like what Runevalkyrie said. The less you think about it the easier it will be.

I would suggest a warm shower, a glass of warm milk and then curl up somewhere and try to settle down. Books I find help to settle down, but the Internet doesn't - just watch out for that one...

If all else fails just go and lay down and try to clear your mind and relax, having spent 8 hours laying down and relaxing (even if you couldn't sleep) is better than having spent 8 hours on the computer freaking out about not being able to sleep.

No worries, be happy!

For future reference, I suggest avoiding high caffeine and sugar foods and drinks four hours before you believe you will be heading to bed. I know those are my biggest problems.

This may sounds stupid, but I reckin if you can't get to sleep, it's better to stay up and do something productive with your time. Or not even productive, just some fun or something that you enjoy. If you are plain bored, the best thing I can suggest is listening to music, it's an awesome way to pass time and is very enjoyable. You can even fall asleep if it's the right sort of music and you are tired.

Just thought of something else, if you're having trouble sleeping because of something going on in your life (family/friend problems, stress, etc) I find writing it down is a great way to convince yourself that you can forget about it until tomorrow. Feeling like you have to think about something that is currently worrying you is the worst when you're trying to get to sleep.

15 hours awake?

I'd just like to say that when I am sleeping well, I am awake for 16-17 hours a day.

I've found that playing with my GBA SP will often make me drowsy, because my eyes get tired when looking at the small screen. If you have a Game Boy oif any kind you can try it (can't say about any other handheld consoles though, I never played them).

If you have any pets...*grins* That always knocks me out like a light. Don't ask me why, but as soon as my cat walks into my bedroom and curls up with me, I fall asleep and wake up in the morning still hugging him. I can get to sleep on my own, but with my cat, it's like *boom* instant sleep.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if you have any routines, ie a CD that you always listen to or a pet you always sleep with, stick to them.

(and as a side note, I am awake for 15.5 hours out of the day if I go to bed and wake up at EXACTLY my normal time. usually it's probably closer to 16.)

Guys, some people sleep for 12 hours and are up for 12 hours. Just because it doesn't seem like a big deal to you, it could very well be a big deal for them. :roll:

Well...I fell asleep doing my IT coursework...(bad jaye! bad jaye!!)

I suggest:
a) read
b) drink warm things
c) don't eat 2 hours before you sleep
d) lie on your bed, close you eyes, don't think of anything or just let your imagination run wild. That's what I do :P
e) as hellyer suggested, do something productive :)

Or you can go insane, run around wild, let your energy drain out. :P

That's possibly because it's the dullest thing ever apart from writing an essay called 'Compare and contrast the way nature is used in the poetry of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge'. Snooze.

It's quite unhealthy to sleep for that long unless you are really young (like below 7 years old).
