Lunar Eclipse

Sat Mar 03, 2007 11:17 pm

Anyone else watching this? It's right outside my front door, and it looks amaziong rightnow. There have been other ones, but usually there's been cloud over it. Not tonight though!

PS. For those unlucky enough not to see it, here's a live webcast of it from Geneva.

Darn, I missed it. Oh well. It's like the song says: you can't always get what you want.

If I got what I wanted, the sun would be blocked out by Pluto.

That would indeed be an interesting turn of events.

Heh. I'm afraid to say it wouldn't work like that :P

Pluto is waaay too small and far away, and besides... its in a further orbit out than we are, so it can't actually get between us and the sun.

On another note, there is an incredible shot in "Popular Science" in the Photo section at the begninning of this guy who took a photo of the sun at 1/8000th of a second exposure, (black and white shot).

He coloured the sun yellow, and you can see the beautiful silhouette of the International Space Station and one of the Shuttles. Just a gorgeous shot.

do you have a link to that picture?

Sun Mar 04, 2007 3:53 am

No link, sorry, Rachel.

I bought the magazine yesterday. I'll have a quick look online now for you.

(Hey, on another note, I mentioned I was studying to be a Biochemist, and one of the mods (I think it was a mod) said "Rachel is gonna love you". Are you a sicentist / studying to be as such / or something along those lines?)

If I were Pluto, I'd do it just because Earth declared me Not A Planet.

I got to see the tail end of it - it rocked... It was like something out of a film.

From what I saw of it, it was interesting, though possibly, if it was slightly less blurry, I would have been more amazed. I need glasses.

You make a fair point.

*Imagines the scene*

"Oh look, an eclipse!"
"That's no moon! It's a small solar body in permanent unstable orbit!"
"Oh noes! :o "

I saw that with my friends the other night - it was awesome *_* It really felt like we were in some sci-fi movie :P We ended up talking about the Universe&Everything. Forty-two.

This topic hasn't been posted on for a few days, but I found what Rachel was asking for:

Here's where I got them; it talks more in-depth about it. :)

Check out the link to the photographer's website- there are loads more pictures there, and they're AMAZING.

This one is another fantastic 'object in front of sun' picture.
