Moongewl wrote:Actually, I think exactly the opposite--a geek is a runny-nosed pocket-protected kid who talks about hacking into the school's computer system.
Nerdy, to me, is using videogames and the Internet, quoting animated television shows, and reading the entire Harry Potter series more than twice.
Unfortunately, that particular type of nerdy is in style here, so a lot of people are embracing these activities without having to pay the price for liking nerdy stuff.

I agree! Well...I called myself a nerd in front of the whole class..(which i don't think was very wise) and what's wrong with thick glasses??!! **shyly takes off her thick lens** So i guess i'm a nerd, even though I hate button-up shirts..!

I voted for Trekkie because... wait. That wasn't an option. Therefore, I voted otaku! Wait a moment... Oh well, neither since those are the two I think describe me best.

To me, nerds are just smart people. I don't find it offensive or anything. Geeks, I believe are smart people that know too much about your cliched "smart" stuff to the point of fanatical (EG: Chess, Star Trek etc etc etc)

When I picture a nerd, I think of somebody that's just smarter than average
When I picture a geek, out comes the thick black rimmed glasses, pocket protector, checkered shirt, pens and calculator for all to see in the breast pocket etc etc etc

What can I say, I'm a nerd, not a geek :P

I agree. As I think about it, Geeks are those who like math, science, and Star Trek, stuff like that. Nerds just concentrate more on school work, and confessing, i'm sortof a nerd, and I have a lot of friends. I don't find either name offesive, because it is not a persons choice to wear thick glasses. I didn't choose to have a thick lens, i just chose the glasses that are BLUE rimmed.

I prefer being called a nerd. A geek is one of those pocket protector kids who watch start trek and stuff to me. I don't care being called a nerd cause I know I am one of them :P

I'm a geek because I'm smart and use the computer a lot and although I know nothing of Star Trek, I at one point knew everything about the Megaman series. Plus I just like being called a geek. Nerds are the ones who are dorky about books, geeks are the one who are dorky on technology. At least that's how I was tought.

God that post is rambly.

Google Image search "Nerd" and "Geek" tells all. :o

(actually geek doesn't get you that much at all, for some reason)
