but some people can't/won't join up on livejournal, but they still wanna write about their day, so why not amkea thing, were non-lj users post their diarys, and lj-users just post up their lj links?

There's nothing stopping them; it's free.

What's stopping people from posting the link to their GJ, DJ, Xanga, etc as opposed to LJ?

Still, although their is nothing stopping them, they still might not want to join. Maybe their parents said no, or the are not sure about it. So haveing a thing for the people with no LJ's to write about their day, and the ones who do have LJs to just post up their link.

Despite being extremely anti-LJ, I pulled up my old one from 3 years ago and added all my PPT friends, just to keep up with their lives. It's not really a big deal for me to use it only for commenting purposes, especially since they're my friends.
People should make an effort if they want to read about their friends' days.
