Probably Madonna, Enya or Bjork. The latter two mainly because they are the sort of music you can have playing in the background and they don't intrude. I can't think of a band, I don't really have a major preference there, maybe one of the older ones like Queen, I don't know.

As for band, that's a lot harder. Probably Barenaked Ladies, Brand New, Third Eye Blind, or Green Day. It's hard to choose just one.
