I thought the gradual increase in temperature was due to the greenhouse effect

There are so many theories though. It's easy to become confused as to which one is the right one. Who's to say Alien isn't right in his theory? truth is, no one actually knows anything. It's all just guesswork. The experts are predicting things based on the evidence the Earth and weather patterns are producing but who's to say that they're right? For all we know the planet could hit us with something that no-one, not even the experts have predicted.
I don't think it's so much that it's not predicted. it's just not expected. there are theories that the weather patterns will cause an ice age because of the movement of some jet stream causing cold air to penetrate lower. but that theory is not really considered because the effects suck too much.

a=b
a^2=ab
a^2-b^2=ab-b^2
(a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
a+b=b
2a=a
2=1 => 1 = 2
What I understood out of all of that.
1+1 = 4.

the Earth isnt getting noticeably closer to the sun, nor will it ever.
While Terra's orbit is degrading, the sun will be long dead (and possibly the universe itself) before we even get close to Sol.
Im hoping for the Gaea theory.
who doesnt love a sentient Planet that is overly annoyed at the pestilence infesting its surface.
other than that, my feelings on this matter are well known.

Oh em gee there are natural disasters like there have been since the beginning of time, we're going to die.
DiscordantEdit: Now, that was rude. Not only was your post not very nice, you posted it in all caps. I fixed that half for you, but your attitude is your own problem.

Here's the trick: science never proves anything to be right. We trust it so much only because it rejects the obviously (and obscurely) wrong theories and models relatively fast, and whatever remains shares at least some elements with the truth.
You've shattered my belief that 1 + 1 = 2.
*cries*
1+1=10... base 2.

its partially that.. but when the o-zone layer weakens it lets harmful UV rays in, and it takes a longer time to repair then to damaga,e so its children and making the suns rays more powerful..

*raises eyeBROWs* In the past a lot of species have died out do to natural disasters... who knows, maybe one of them will happen and wipe humans out in a few decades or centuries?
EDIT: whoops. Eyebrows. Not raises eyes. =P

Yeah... but that's only UV... I think it has nothing to do with temperature... I'm not sure about this though...
Oh, and 1 + 1 = window!

The trick in there is that Hunter divided by (a-b), which is actually zero, since a and b are equal, which screws the equation up XD since anything divided by zero is undefined.

For each of these recent natural disasters, there has probably been worse one. May not have been recorded, but hey. Earth has been here a good deal longer then history has been recorded. End of the world is still billions of years off.

The only thing I've gotten from this topic is the vague idea that a lot of you have been watching too much The Day After Tomorrow.

I'm most likely going to die before the Earth does.

Unless there is a massive, random catacolismic explosion that destroys all of the earth and the universe tomorrow (unlikely) I think I'd have to agree that all of us will.
I do believe I spelt catacolismic wrong--quite sure of it--but I'm too lazy to look it up..

cataclysmatic.
Were you aware that your signature has a cow-like creature with a chain saw?

Give it about...7 years, by the last thing I saw..
I have a word (actually, a name) for you: Yellowstone. It's a supervolcano, and it's got enough magma for one nasty eruption. It's also 40,000 years overdue. Also, supervolcanoes have been responsible for many of the past major extinctions, including the largest one (at the end of the Cambrian period), I think.

Oh I saw that on a educational show thingamabob, very interesting. I recall them saying though that it's not going to wipe out everyone, just that people would have to be way more careful when they went outside because of the weakened field it would let more radiation and such into the atmosphere causing more cancer and such. Ofcourse a lot of people in planes may have their machines malfunction during the change they said and that it would defenitely affect other electronic equiptment.
Yes there have been natural disasters since the begining of time, however since I'm lazy, can anyone be bothered to look up how much time in between these disasters has gone by? It seems like these things are happening back to back recently, including 9/11 even if that isn't a natural disaster.
Oh and Bangel, state your view on how ridiculous you think something may be without the use of caps and without being insulting next time please. There is no need to add your comment in such manner, you can state that point without being condescending.
