When mine were removed they did 2 at a time (top and bottom of one side), then I had the other 2 done about 6 months later. Under general anesthesia both times - the top ones were ok, but both bottom ones were severely impacted. One of them, the roots had actually wrapped around the roots of the tooth in front of it!
What did I eat ... jello, pudding, baby food fruit (excellent for this!) and cream of wheat (no raisins:( ) all room temperature. That was about it for a few days. Then went to very soft foods but things with a little more texture - overcooked macaroni and cheese, oatmeal, etc. But not too hot and I couldn't even think about really cold food - just cold with ice packs on my jaw to help the swelling.
I remember lots of having to rinse with warm salt water too. That I think helped them heal faster, never got dry socket ... thank goodness - that from what I understand really hurts!

Yikes, I had no idea getting all your wisdom teeth out was so common - is it usual practise in the US to remove all even if some are actually okay?
You definitely have my sympathies though, getting teeth out is just the worst. Swishing salt water (like everconfused said ^^), or water with paracetamol in can really help =)

I didn't have my wisdom teeth taken out but I did have 2 of my lower teeth removed (more towards the front, 2nd bicuspids maybe? I'm not sure.) I really didn't have much problem with it. I just stuck to soft foods like sandwiches... and a few pain killers. I was sure not to use any straws, as recomended. I kept my teeth in a little box just for novelty sake, but I lost them somehow. Darn that tooth fairy! She jipped me again!
Edit: I just got a Tooth Faerie RE, she gave me 170 NP for a lost tooth. XD

Aww I never got my teeth! I didn't think to ask for them.
Now everconfused.. by baby food fruit do you mean little tiny fruit or actually baby food. I've been eating those fruit cup things because the juice makes them mushy and they are nice to eat.
I also had some frozen juice sticks.. like freezies only they are supposed to be less sugar and real fruit juice? I wouldnt say Im sensitive to temperature. The cold is really nice.
Thanks for everyones suggestions

I really appreciate it.

They're easy to chew. I was also extremely swollen and I had huge gashes around the outside of my mouth. I had a really bad experience when I got my teeth removed.
