Me too (as well as living here, heh), but it mentions all of what I said pretty much.
I wonder if that driving age has changed in Scotland too, google isn't being co operative on finding that change of law. Mind you it's been a while since I passed that age and I still haven't applied for my license, heh =)

Its great because you have about 9 months on average from when you pass your driving test to become a competant enough driver and a morally responsible enough to be able to not drink and drive. So its like "WOW I CAN DRINK + WOW I CAN DRIVE = LETS GO"

You can get married at 16 without consent in all of Scotland, it's only in England & Wales that you need consent until you are 18. Gretna Green is famous for marrying many elopers as it's so near the border with England.
For quite a few things in Scotland you are considered a legal adult and no longer a minor at 16, living alone, various laws and so on
Wiki had an article on Gretna specifically, so that's what I used.
