Oh gosh, this isn't what I wanted to read. I'm getting a tooth pulled and then my braces on sometime before the end of this year. I had wanted to get them before school and cheerleading started but that didn't work out. I can already see this is gonna be painful. Well lets hope i remember this information once i need it.

I had to get four teeth pulled off before I could get my braces!

I don't think I've ever experienced such pain. There's the dull, throbbing ache from the rubber bands jammed in between my back teeth, then the sharp sting of this piece of metal cutting into my upper lip, and then my bottom teeth decided to hurt for no reason, seeing as nothing's been done to them. (I have a huge overbite, and if they put the things on the lower teeth I'll just snap them off.) I can't eat anything because it really hurts to chew, so I've been living off of soup for two days.

Any helpful hints/suggestions to make the agony a bit less unrelenting?

I've had my braces on for about three years, with a one year break so i would probley know.. After a week or so it will stop hurting, but when you get your rubber bands that hook in..you probley will get these later in the process they will hurt more often

Ugg... I hate braces. I couldn't even eat french fries a while after I got them. That was sad... I had a milkshake diet for awhile.

You get used to them though.

Then they get tightened. Again. Eventually the cycle spirals out of control and you begin blowing major amounts of cash (that by this time you have to sell lemonade and shoe shine to aquire) on neurofen just to stop the pain that is causing the voices in your head. At which time you walk into a doorframe bending your braces into the exact shape necessary to trasmit the 'Hits of the 60's Gold' directly through your teeth into your ears.

But your teeth start looking good.

Many people find that it gets less and less painful each time you get them tightened - that was certainly the case for me, I ended up not needing to take anything for the pain at all.

It hurts to begin with but the pain is certainly never unbearable, there's really not as much to worry about as this thread would imply! :)

I'd never spend cash on neurofen when I can get exactly the same thing (ibuprofen) prescribed by my doctor and get it free :P

Just curious, what are some good colors for braces? Here are some to stay away from (mostly personal experience, here):

Yellow
Bright Green
Dark Colors (especially navy and violet)
White
Clear
Pink (only a few shades...they blend with your gums and give an icky effect)

Hehe, mine are purple and orange. I was going to get black and orange to match my iPod, but the purple looked really cool.

The soreness isn't as bad now....I can eat really soft things, and it's not throbbing for no reason :)

I am getting braces soon, as my teeth on the lowwer jaw don't line up with the top, so I have a type of wonky jaw, and that is just worrying me. A friend had some braces put in and she just said that you get used to them.

Mine are usually teal, but sometimes I go for green or blue =).
