I think names that are meaningful make great middle names-- like the place where you got married, or where the child was born, or your favorite mythological hero. Paired with a more traditional first name, you've got a meaningful name, and the child can always choose to go by their middle name. I don't really like it when parents stick these mouthful of a strange name on a little kid, potentially dooming them to years of being made fun of. I mean, my name is Sandy, and I got made fun of for it, so I'm sure kids with "different" names will get teased at some point.
