Alright, I'm just gonna copy what -Ducky- says because its all the perfect reasons:
-more clean, professional look
-cosumisable
-able to invites all your friends into one window
-better smilies
-awesome games
-all my friends are on it
-normal people
-no stupid annoying sounds every time you send/recieve a message
-able to change your name whenever you feel like
-bigger icons
-clean organised list of who's online and who isn't

Msn, solely because I used it for all my messenging life, and recently because of solitaire showdown...addicting.....must win my 100 games!

MSN. Most of my friends are on MSN since AIM isn't popular here. I like it better since you're able to change your nick to anything you want, displaying different things e.g. mood, lyrics etc. AIM only allows you to alter your s/n and that's it. And there's this person I know who has 3 s/ns and it's irking me 
Nonetheless, MSN seems to be more ahead (in my opinion ), custom emoticons and display pictures ^^.
And also because even though I've installed AIM I don't use it often. I do sometimes but not regularly
