I think I might not meet the weight requirement. Besides, I'm scared of needles :(
I feel bad for not even trying to find out if I could, though.

In my jurisdiction (state/country? not sure), I believe the requirement is 17 years of age and 110 pounds (~50 kg) but I'm not sure if that's the same everywhere. But, if you're within those guidelines in general you're pretty safe.

That being said, if you're afraid of needles, forget about it - don't feel guilty, though...everyone has a limit, and if you can't handle it's better to not try than to have a panic attack midway through and get blood everywhere....

and no, eating more iron isnt going to help my case. I am an extreme anemic. It will most likely never get better.

Sorry to hear that :{

eh, its ok. I've been sickly my whole life so it doesnt bother me much. Its not like I was super healthy and then got sick lol. I just live it.

I sure have! I was kind of grossed out when this one kid's blood bag exploded a couple tables away, but other than that it wasn't too bad.

I got free food. :D

I saw something like that one. The needle came out of the kids arm and started spraying blood as the bad deflated. That was horrible! (I was only there to hold a friend of mine's hand because he was afraid...funny thing is he's a 250+lb college football player lol).

the hospital cant even take blood from me without alot of drama and leaving me w. a huge bruise. last time they stuck me in 7 different places and got me in a nerve, then the bone, with the needle. I was screaming and crying so loud that it attracted alot of attention...because that was the most pain I've even been in. I have very small and very shallow veins. They have to use a children's butterfly needle on me.

Or you could have just gotten the same nurse that drew my blood last time. I have veins the size of the Lincoln Tunnel and she managed to stab me more times than Mike Meyers would've. My mom, who was a pediatrician, ended up pushing the woman out of the way and inserting the needle herself.

It's gone now after I foolishly overdosed on iron tablets :oops: But I read that those who have it can't give blood and after reading it, I've never been bothered to actually get tested for whether I can give blood now. So, after a long story, no, I have never given blood.

They'll test you there. They do a drop test, where they place a drop of blood (from your finger) in a jar of copper sulfate. If it sinks, you have enough iron. If it doesn't, you don't.

Either way, though, they'll give you cookies.
