Is that why half price day seemed normal? :D

I thought they cancelled half price day.. it said it somewhere on their calender: "Cancelled due to lack of interest"

Oh, and as far as the Day of Action goes, I don't think it did as well as the people who participated expected. It's not really easy to get everyone to boycott Neopets for that one day. I agree with the person who suggested snail mail. Not to mention the fact that not every site had anything on the Day of Action.

They just cancelled March 3rd (My birthday :x). Not all half price days.

Someone wrote in the editorial about that and TNT said they would change it.
They didn't change it yet.
They percent of it changing is like the percent of the juppieswirl and strawberry chia coming out.

If you haven't looked lately, when you click to play a game, as it's loading look at the address bar. It always had the game, the username, email and alot of other numbers. Now it has the game name, the date of birth, along with the other information. Must be a tracking/demographic thing. That was just pointed out to me last night.

So no, the DoA I'm sure did not work, not in the way the original statement was intended. And I agree with you that everyone probably knew this wouldn't work, not in any real substantial way. But it did get some people thinking, and perhaps some people writing a letter. That makes it at least a partial success.

Okay, I didn't know that it had a tracking system now. Good thing I don't play that many of the sponsor games, otherwise, I might get more junkmail than I already have!

I once told a person who was rather narrowminded that he needed to stop accepting everything that was told to him at the Holy Truth and think things through. He actually did it and found that several people were playing him for a fool. I never told him much else on the subject, but for me that was the greatest victory ever! So, if people, even those who don't agree with DoA, are thinking about why they are playing this thing that is "just a game" then maybe, that might make a huge difference down the line!

Amazing what one can come up with when one is given a cardboard box and a roll of duct-tape!

Do you have links to the articles morningstar?

The Time Magazine article came out last week and gave a cynical view of the commercialism of Neopets. Here is the Time Magazine article link: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... -3,00.html

Here is the link to the Daily Californian Newspaper, which was really anti-Neopets (and published in the same state where Neopets is located). It talks of Ralph Nader and the World Health Organization: http://www.dailycal.org/article.php?id=15532

Here is a link to a recent Business week article. It is a pretty neutral article but informative, nonetheless: http://www.businessweek.com/technology/ ... _tc150.htm

And, this is a really great link that you might want to bookmark. It lists all information written about Neopets during the current week. I found that very interesting because you are then able to check week by week to see what, if anything, has been written. http://thedavidlawrenceshow.com/001770.html

Probably one of the most informative things I found was the info Neopets provides in the About Us section, in which they give a lot of numbers and details about how the immersive advertising works: http://info.neopets.com/aboutus/

And, everconfused, I think that sponsors didn't want to comment in that Time Magazine article because they don't want to be associated with anything that could be interpreted as bad advertising practices--particularly with respect to innocent kids. It's one thing to do it but quite another to have a big national magazine pointing the finger at your corporation and saying shame, shame.

And, hey, if I had never participated in the DOA, I would have never found this info. Until someone had mentioned the Time article in PPT when Shroomy posted, I wouldn't even had known that anyone, other than some of us disgruntled players, had a beef with Neopets.

EDIT: And, I just happened upon Neopets' press-kit. Now that little document has a lot of extremely interesting info in it. You can't get it from the site directly (they state that they will email it to you), but it is on the web. It gives you everything you wanted to know about the business side of Neopets, including its major advertisers and ad agencies. Here is the link: http://info.neopets.com/presskit/compinfo.html
I highly suggest a read through it for anyone who play Neopets.

Thank you, Morningstar!

I just started reading the presskit and lookie what I found!
Quote:
The membership of Neopets has grown at an astounding rate. Membership has grown from approximately 90,000 in April 2000 to more than 22 million in June 2004. Approximately thirty-nine percent of Neopets members are age twelve and under; forty percent are between the ages of thirteen and seventeen, and twenty-one percent are age eighteen and older. Significantly, Neopets' explosive growth rate has been "viral" - meaning that the impetus for this dynamic growth has been word-of-mouth from user to user, not commercial advertising.

Ummmm.. can we say that it's not word-of-mouth anymore? I mean they advertised the heck out of the plushies and every tag and toy has the website practically plastered to it in some form!

Ohhh... I see what you mean, Morningstar. If that little bill goes through, Neopets is going to be first one to be hit hardest, given that they use Immersive Advertising, almost exclusively!

Heh...I was browsing through the FAQ and found this little gem...

Some idiot who has no idea how Neo actually works wrote:
A primary reason for the continually growing popularity of Neopets.com and the loyalty of its members is the willingness of the Neopets Team to listen to site members' input
