Bash isn't allowed either.

If I remember correctly the word slap or whack (one of the two, can't remember which) isn't allowed either, I always have to use the alternative one.

Another thing that irks me with the filters is in my guild I like to quote the person's message that I'm answering and I do it like so: --- comment --- Trouble is that if the first letter of those other persons question/comment starts with I the filter freaks out meaning I always have to cut out the first few words. Its odd sometimes but I can definately see how it would be necessary, enough abusive language gets through the filters as it is :(

I think they are a little over sensetive the censors. It would be a lot easyer if they told you the word they were censoring too. I've had problems when updating pets pages and guild pages like that. It's annoying to have to go through the whole thing word for word to see if anything sounds dodgy T_T

Medusa, I think the word is "whack" which is also annoying cause I allways say "Whacks you over the head with Axe/Fish/Mac G5/Windows 98" a lot :)

I don't know...I've said that Cameron *whacks Sharon with glass bottle* when talking to his petpet of that name, and she's never 'said' anything about not swearing for that, only the term "hits", and even then, that's only when you phrase it a certain way. But it could be different on the NeoBoards though...

You may be right! *cough*WhackaKass*cough* If that was the word I was thinking of I don't understand how they can sensor it and yet use it on the site itself...

I always use hp instead of hit points, as hit has been caught by the filters for quite awhile. Very weird. And yes, the 40+ talking about someone's age did get caught in a filter in neomail. It took awhile before someone else posted here why that one got caught.

Creative spelling is I think causing more and more things to not be allowed. As people try to say inappropriate things using spaces and symbols, the filters have to be toughened up unfortunately.

I would really like to see a list of words posted either on the T&C or the Chat Rules of all the words you just should not say.

You can't say:

bikini (even though the neocam showed an album cover with the band name bikini something or other);

breast (like breast of chicken - I DO understand that one completely);

hot (as in weather - but too many people post about how ... someone is);

cookie (even though there are cookie items on the site, which can be frustrating if you're looking for something though you can! use cookie in a message title on the boards, weird? - apparently because of people talking about cookie grabbers) so people use cg;

party in any way for any reason;

ebay (you'll likely get a "posting a commercial site" warning) - Johnny - I got a warning for typing that on my guild responding to someone else when I was saying I couldn't find an orange aisha plushie and they suggested I go there. Never think that the guild boards aren't being more closely monitored than before;

anything that could be even considered "inappropriate", i.e., my horse pricked up his ears;

soup-faerie was getting people warnings for a few days, don't know now;

We know Pinkpt is blocked;

bash, well, I'm not sure why. I'm looking at it and honestly can't see where that could be a bad word -- I guess violence? (on a place that has a battledome?);

kill (I'm not sure how I feel about this word, but I guess it's violence again, and people could use that word as a kind of threat);

hit - I agree that's probably because of people trying to say another word, but it IS a word used in so many places on the site;

damn and hell (sorry for any those offended, not meant to); I've seen people get away with those and I've seen people warned/messages cleared -- and yes, I know, both of those words are used in a few places on the site itself;

crap - see above;

love can sometimes get you a warning (I was surprised at how to get the neomail avatar);

inane (yes, I saw someone get a warning for using the word inane);

asinine (saw someone get instantly frozen for that one);

certain combinations of words, like I once tried to post on the guild board "I'll be back in a bit, ok?" and that got caught by filters as profanity - took me a couple minutes to figure that one out;

Of course any code, like if someone posts asking for a particular html or css code for something. Close to impossible to help anyone with that - you get nothing in your post or you get caught in the outside link filter;

certain chatspeak or "elite" spelling (which to be honest I wish they'd toughen up more, but I loathe both - can't even understand it half the time);

I think we all know the "this is not a scam" filter (which is too funny);

I would really like to see a chain letter filter! But there isn't one per se. Though I have seen people post that they couldn't tell someone else not to send those on the boards and in a neomail - they get a general warning page about posting chains and that "they are being watched" or they get an actual official warning about not posting chains -- yet the people posting the darn things in the first place seem to get away with it!

There have been alot! of warnings lately on the boards/neomail/guild boards regarding outside links, commercial sites, chain letters where people have not, in fact posted any of these things. It's just certain words or combinations of words triggering the filters.

In some ways the filters are wonderful, but in others they're not because you can't post something innocent/helpful and because they're not picking up on some of the nonsense that continues to slip through. As frustrating as it can be to type a message anywhere and get a filter page, I would rather see more of that page where a word or phrase may be considered bad than having it go through the filters and someone getting warned/frozen for something innocent. And the opposite is true -- if someone's trying to get around the filters and say something rude, those should be getting the filter page.

I don't understand why/how some people can post some of these words/phrases and nothing happens and others get caught in a filter or warned or frozen. I guess it depends on the monitors who are working at any given time in the case where a filter didn't pick something up.

On the subject of filters and inappropriate words, why aren't there filters on the create account/create a pet pages? I've been seeing way too many completely awful user and pet names lately, especially newer people. Whether they just don't know or they have multi accounts and are trying to be cute or funny, some of these names just shouldn't be allowed - ever. Conversely, I've seen 2 people I've come to know fairly well on the boards have accounts frozen for innapropriate user names. In both cases the accounts were over 2 years old and both people involved are slightly older, decent people who would not deliberately do something like that and there was, in fact nothing wrong with the names. One person did get their account back, the other didn't.

How is "whack" a bad word? I mean, how can it be used in a bad sense?

I'll second that one. Looking through the Pound sometimes I'm shocked at some of the names on the pets (usually newly created). To tell you the truth its got me paranoid about adopting from the Pound because if you pick-up a pet with a name that may be even slightly inappropriate without intending to you could easily get your account frozen for it too.

The fact that numerous languages have been added to the site has its advantages but I don't think it helps the filter problem any after all not have you only got the "English" words now but you'd have to have the words for all the other langauges too. Out of interest, anyone know how do they work Board Monitors for Boards posted in other languages?

I think the reason filters put up that word because whack contains the word hack and hacking is against Neopets's TOS.

The same thing happened to me. My mail was also long, so figuring out took forever, since it didn't even say what word/phrase was the problem! After butchering my message multiple times, I finally figured it didn't like the title (L+G). I think you all can guess why.

Me and my friend who goes on my account have also noticed that it's often times a mistake as what gets said due to where you live. For example a word in the US can be classed as a curse word where as in the UK it's perfectly ok to say. And vice versa. ("Fanny" for example. I'm not explaining either so look it up the UK and US version ;) I know a few people have reported others for the term however I don't think it is filterd.)
