Degrassi

Does anyone watch this show? It comes on The-N Network (at least in the US, I'm not sure any where else, but it is a Canadian show). Anyway, it's a pretty cool show. It deals with a group of teenagers and issues real teens face.

I have watched like two episodes. It's a teenage soap opera. Literally. I don't like how the plot shifted to like innocent teenagers to skanks and jerks.

I've never seen the show, like, ever, but one of my friends said I could do a Rick face. Today they informed me that the character killed himself. XD I don't take that as a good omen...XD

I like it, but its going bad. The stuff they do... never happens. It used to be great, teens are exposed to all sorts of stuff... But lately its just layed out in a line. Not one episode someone doesn't get slapped, or shot (haha), or get bad news, or some great big tramatic thing happens. I understand its a show, and they only have so many episodes, but I'm up for a plain old boring Degrassi. One episode where they go about their every day lives, have their happy little relationships, get a dentention maybe, and go home would make me so happy.

I watch it, but not every episode. I'll get all into it, then its just a teenage soap opera.

I agree, because every episode something Dramatic happens. I doubt that Everyday someone would go through something then the next day something else BIG happens.

:) I just got Noggin, so I'm watching it. I remember it from long ago, though. The shooting episode is THE saddest episode.

Well it's not like they show EVERY day of their lives. The episodes are just the exciting stuff that goes on. I t doesn't mean they don't have boring days.

My friends were OBSESSED with the old show from the 80's, and now that it's back, every Tuesday it's "Degrassi's on tonight! looks like a good one!"

Go Canada!

Yea, that one got me pretty upset too. I started to cry when Jimmy was shot. (Small, just in case.)

I was just going to post about it not being about everyday of there lives. Lol. They just make the shows based on issues that teens can relate to. Sure some they may make kinda cheesey, but the eps are still good and the point does get through. Good show, good show.

I'm not saying its a bad show or anything, but its hard to believe that that much bad stuff would happen to people. I mean, bad stuff happens sure, but...

My dad hits me
I'm bipolar
My girlfriend left me
My band is screwed
My band doesnt like my old gf who is now my new gf
My dad died

The list goes on and on. And I know they can't have 200 actors to do each episode, just saying...

Well, Craig is the worst character, so we should just exclude him. But really, his problems are all related. It's not like they gave him a random mismatch of problems.

I grew up watching Degrassi St, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High. I remember when Spike had emma. It was a great show, i have only watched a few esp. of the new one, it does seem a bit heaver then the old shows. But not by much. They where the first show to deal with Teen Pregnancy, Suicide, and AIDS in a serious non jugmental way. It was a ground breaker. Maybe it is trying to hard to live up to the legecy.

I do agree that the show is a bit contrived... That being said, every single one of those things mentioned in that list happened to my group of friend's during high school and I suppose it is filling a gap.

Personally, I enjoyed the old '80s episodes. Now those were quite a sight. So many classics, like the infamous pregnancy one, rivaled only by the training bra season finale.

I havn't seen the new Degrassi yet, but I used to watch Degrassi Juniour High and Degrassi High all the time, and I loved it.
I think it's great how they cover so many issues that we as teens face all the time.

Hmm...they're way ahead in Canada. The American network that shows it, The-n, censors a lot. They wouldn't even show these episodes (a two-parter) where one of the characters is pregnant and gets an abortion. (I saw it though...:P)

"Bad Blood" Good episode.

Degrassi was originally developed in this decade known as..the eighties(cue Twilight Zone music). I myself have not heard much of this same time, except that people were hungry like the wolves and had really really big hair.

Degrassi, itself is showing youth audiences what happens behind closed curtains. Think it isn't happening at your high school? Take a better look. A year ago I would've said the exact same thing as Jen, but when you get into the thick of it. The show covers everything and covers it well. Just because it didn't happen to someone you know, does not mean it never happened.

Degrassi has managed to portray a group of young adults, whom may not all know each other, but are going throw different experiences and will ultimately all develop differently, even if it's all in the same building..hey..wait, does that sound familiar to anyone else?

Sure, you may not of had the baby and the abortion, but someone else did. less than a week ago, here, in Brampton, of all places. Two kids were stabbed and a teacher was shot(at school). Heck, I've had some of those things Jen listed happen to me, and I've seen it a lot around school too.

Coming2atvnearu does have a point though, the show does circle around the lives of a select group of people. Seemingly, misery does follow them everywhere they go.

An interesting note: The episode where Rick shoots the one guy and dies himself, they wern't sure how to portray that since it is such a volatile subject. I personally think they did a good job though. They managed not to glorify the victim, or Rick. It gave us a scenario and left us with our own opinions. Go them.
