Green Wing

Sun May 15, 2005 5:16 am

I read about a new British comedy called the "Green Wing" today. It'll debut on Thursday on BBC America, and I'm not sure if it's running in England right now. It is a medical comedy like "Scrubs," but the article claimed this show is funnier, and said the quality was comparable to "The Office." (the original, mind you)

I think I will watch it :D

P.S. In a fun little move by BBC America "Green Wing" will debut at the same time of the season finale of that other less-funny medical show, "ER."

Green Wing's first series finished at the back end of last year in the UK.

It's a lot more surreal and the format is closer to a sketch-show. There are some memorable lines and visual gags but it, like sketch-shows, is a bit hit and miss. Some parts will make you laugh and some parts miss the mark.

It's not *that* similar to The Office in format. It doesn't use talking heads format and it's often a bit too far out to be anything that actually could happen. With The Office, nothing that happened in it was surreal in the real sense of the word. Anything that happened in The Office could happen in a real office, and the people were real characters. Green Wing is a lot 'quirkier' which contreibutes to it being so hit-and-miss.
In quality, I prefer the Office- it's more consistent and I just find it funnier, but Green Wing is good and hopefully you'll enjoy one of our more bizarre comedies of recent years.

Definitely catch Green Wing if you can, it's definitely the best show we've had this year in the UK. Funnily enough I never really liked The Office but I loved Green Wing, it really is fab. It is slightly surreal but not OTT and the finale is one of the funniest I have ever seen in any sitcom. 10/10 from me.

Ok, I caught the first episode last night. I loved it!! It was kind of like a live action FLCL, especially with the "rubato time" effects. I loved all the random tidbits in the show :D

So you've seen the first episode?

I loved it when she lost the keys to her house... Classic...

I've seen the second episode now. Yay! I really like this show now. It's given me a reason to watch BBC America weekly again ^__^
