The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy... and question.

I sort of liked this, but even though I had not read the book in years, I could tell it wasn't very close to it. Marvin was good, Zaphod was not as I pictured him... I'd give it a 3 out of 5 - not very memorable but enjoyable nonetheless.

Wait, technically what I said was wrong. One scene sticks out above all the others in my mind: The scene in which Humma Kavula (who Douglas Adams created for the screenplay many years ago - at least they respected those wishes) removes his glasses. I'd completely forgotten his name by this point and could tell he was an unimportant character - but the second he did, I'd named him Erik.

So as a Phan, does anyone have access to a picture of Humma Kavula sans glasses? At last, a drawing reference! (I just don't like the Lon Chaney one... really, I don't.)

*cough* Anyhoodle! What did you think about this movie, even if you don't have pictures of Erik!Kavula? Have you read the book? If so, how would you compare them?

I thought the film was alright, though I didn't like most of the changes they made. My favorite part of the movie, however, was the opening sequence. That was absolutely brilliant. The dolphins singing 'So Long and Thanks For All the Fish'- just great.

The special effects on the film were brilliant, but after reading the books and watching the tv series I didnt like it how the plot was completely different. Apart from that it was a good film lol.

i was sold against it the moment Zaphod said that wonderous line
"if theres anything more important than my ego i want it caught and shot now"
he just didnt pull that off
nor did arthur pull of the line "what the bloody hell are those!"
good film. but i'll stick to my books thanyou.

I loved Zaphod, but then again I haven't read the books yet so maybe that will change once I read them.

But yeah.. I really liked the movie. I thought some of the humor was too forced.. like the depressed robot.... but other than that it was pretty good.
The visuals were fantastic though. Lots of great eye candy.

Meh. It was an okay movie, but nothing compared to the books. Douglas Adam's writing style is just too hard to put into a film.

Wonderful visuals, though. And Alan Rickman as Marvin...GENIUS!

I loved "So Long and Thanks For All The Fish" (only one in theathre who callped for it) but Marvin wow, the voice was great! It was awesome!

Anyone else notice the original marvin on vogosphere? (in the office block where they are trying to get Trillian released)
or how about that the original actor for Arthur was the recording on magrathea?
or the dozen or so other little nudges towards the original that are (mostly) pretty well disguised?

I did! I just finished watching the original six episode series on dvd about ten minutes ago. Although, I kinda liked the movie Marvin a bit better. He just delivered the lines how I thought they should be when I read the books. Also, the original BBC Zaphod was better, because in the books and radio series, his heads were separate. With all the new CGI stuff we have, you'd think they could pull off two heads side by side! But anyways, the movie was okay, the BBC series was better, the books were awesome, but nothing can top the radio series. and as a side note: both Fords were excellent.

Not a one, but Stu went on about them afterwards. Said they were the only bit worth watching.
