I am going to see this movie but they messed up the oompa loompas they wear red jumpsuits and antenas??? thats creepy. Also Willy Wonka played as Johnny Depp is weird because he is kinda creepy, his smile looks really scary. Last thing i think they messed up is when he says chewing gum is oh so gross chewing gum i hate the most?!?!??!? HE makes gum how can he hate it??

Haha that is a bit odd...

And I was convinced that Johnny Depp has fake teeth on for the movie.. But I wouldn't really know since he rarely smiles.

Anyway, I can't wait to see this.

Yeah! Good call! How dare they try to stay true to the literary work that made the story famous instead of the dilluted camp-fest that allowed a bunch of elementary kids to feel smart without ever touching a book or even, perish the thought, all the books of the series. I completely agree with you! For Shame!!!

Personally, I know if something makes me uncomfortable, I jump to the conclusion that its wrong. It hasn't failed me yet.

You're a wicked, wicked man.

Don't forget that people can't manufacture a product they don't like ;)

Is it just me or is there only one ommpa loompa..I mean..they just film one man and then use the computer to kind of multiply him. They all had the same face I think...

Thu Jun 16, 2005 9:50 pm

It's part of Oompa Loompa reproduction.

Oh my god... please don't jump to conclusions. That IS staying true to the literary work. In the book, Willy Wonka dislikes gum (though he manufactures it nonetheless).
In the old movie, Willy Wonka dislikes gum.
In the new movie, Willy Wonka dislikes gum. It's just a fact! I shall give you an excerpt from the book.

"Dear friends, we surely all agree
There's almost nothing worse to see
Than some repulsive little bum
Who's always chewing chewing gum.
(It's very near as bad as those
Who sit around and pick the nose).
So please believe us when we say
That chewing gum will never pay;
This sticky habit's bound to send
The chewer to a sticky end.
Did any of you ever know
A person called Miss Bigelow?
This dreadful woman saw no wrong
In chewing, chewing all day long.
She chewed while bathing in the tub,
She chewed while dancing at her club,
She chewed in church and on the bus;
It really was quite ludicrous!
And when she couldn't find her gum,
She'd chew up the linoleum,
Or anything that happened near–
A pair of boots, the postman's ear,
Or other people's underclothes,
And once she chewed her boy friend's nose.
She went on chewing till, at last,
Her chewing muscles grew so vast
That from her face her giant chin
Stuck out just like a violin.
For years and years she chewed away,
Consuming fifty packs a day,
Until one summer's eve, alas,
A horrid business came to pass.
Miss Bigelow went late to bed,
For half an hour she lay and read,
Chewing and chewing all the while
Like some great clockwork crocodile.
At last, she put her gum away
Upon a special little tray,
And settled back and went to sleep–
(She managed this by counting sheep).
But now, how strange! Although she slept,
Those massive jaws of hers still kept
On chewing, chewing through the night,
Even with nothing there to bite.
They were, you see, in such a groove
They positively had to move.
And very grim it was to hear
In pitchy darkness, loud and clear,
This sleeping woman's great big trap
Opening and shutting, snap–snap–snap!
Faster and faster, chop–chop–chop,
The noise went on, it wouldn't stop.
Until at last her jaws decide
To pause and open extra wide,
And with the most tremendous chew
They bit the lady's tongue in two.
Thereafter, just from chewing gum,
Miss Bigelow was always dumb,
And spent her life shut up in some
Disgusting sanatorium.
And that is why we'll try so hard
To save Miss Violet Beauregard
From suffering an equal fate.
She's still quite young. It's not too late,
Provided she survives the cure.
We hope she does. We can't be sure."

I've never seen the original movie all the way through but what I have seen I didn't really like.
BF wants to see the new version so I'll go and see it with him. Looks interesting enough though.

;D Way to ruin a cult classic.

Nothing worse than people complaining that the new movie isn't like the old movie.
This is not a remake of the 1971 film. It is Tim Burton's own interpretation of the book. There was a book you know, several in fact.
For the record, Roald Dahl hated the 1971 film. He hated what the way the screenwriter re-wrote the story. And because of this, he refused to allow any more films to be made from the other books in the series.
Also. In the book, the Oompa-Loompas were not little orange men with green hair. Read this Wikipedia article. You should find it interesting.
You should do a little bit of research before you go judging something. The movie's not even out yet! And from everything I've heard, it follows the book much, much closer than the 1971 film. In fact, the screenwriter Tim Burton hired had never seen the 1971 film, and Burton was glad, telling him he should complete the screenplay without seeing the film. This is even more assurance that theis new film will not be inspired at all by the old one.
If you all like the 1971 film so much, by all means, wear your DVD players out by watching it. But don't try reading the book, you'll be disappointed. And don't go see the new film either.

Apparently so:
In the upcoming 2005 adaption, which has been restored to its original title of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Oompa-Loompas will be dwarves with short dark hair and bronzed skin, all played by dwarf actor Deep Roy.

I'm really looking forward to this film :) I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, they were two of my favourite Dahl books but when I saw the film (which I really enjoyed) I was a little bemused as to why it wasn't the same, and also I seem to remember it was called Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory and missed out Charlie all together in the title. Merf.

Anyway, point is I like the original film with Gene Wilder but I much prefer the books and if this film follows the book more closely I think I'll like it even better. Tim Burton directing and Johnny Depp starring can only be good things I reckon and more of a guarentee that this film will be great and much closer to the fantastic book :)

Thank God we didn't end up with Marilyn Manson playing Willy Wonka. I don't mind how he comes across in interviews and stuff, and he was pretty funny on Gonzo, but I don't think he can act.

Nuff respect to Johnny Depp. Edward Scissorhands = one of my utmost favourites.
