Anime Versus (Week 4)

Wed Nov 16, 2005 11:37 pm

Greetings, and welcome to Anime Versus. Like it's predecessors, Anime Versus will pit two competitors against each other each week, to see which one PPTers prefer. To vote, please select the anime you like best from the poll at the top of this topic, then feel free to discuss your choice below. The winner of the week will move onto the next round, and will face a new challenger anime. Should an anime win for six weeks straight, it will be removed from the competition and placed into the Anime Hall of Fame.

Last week, Cowboy Bebop tied with Ayashi no Ceres with six votes each. In order to keep the usual format of two anime competing against each other, I flipped a coin to determine this week's competitor. Ceres will continue this week, and in a few weeks Cowboy Bebop will return to the competition. The tie does count as a victory for both competitors, so when Cowboy Bebop returns, it will only need to win for three weeks in order to enter the Anime Hall of Fame.

Series Information:

Ayashi no Ceres (a.k.a. Ceres: The Celestial Legend) is a romantic action-drama produced by Studio Pierrot which aired in Japan from 4/20/00 to 9/28/00 (24 episodes).*

Mikage Aya and her twin brother Aki were just ordinary teenagers. Or least so they thought until they went to celebrate their 16th birthday and the Mikage family attempted to murder Aya. This anime, based on the manga by Watase Yuu, follows Aya as she attempts to unravel the mystery behind the Mikage family and the celestial maiden who wishes to seek her revenge upon the family responsible for her suffering.

Fullmetal Alchemist (a.k.a Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) is an adventure drama produced by Bones, Aniplex, Square-Enix and Mainichi Broadcasting. Its 51 episodes ran from October 2003 to October 2004.* It is also currently being run as a part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim line-up in the United States.

Full Metal Alchemist is the story of two brothers who are gifted alchemists. When their mother dies, they decide to use their powers to restore her to life, violating the taboo against human transmutation. They pay a terrible price for their mistake. Edward, the elder brother, is left with a mechanical arm and leg, while Alphonse, the younger of the two, finds his soul bound to an empty suit of armor. The story follows their quest for the Philosohper's Stone, a legendary material with the power to restore their bodies.**

You most certainly can. It's already scheduled to compete in a few weeks, actually. It's my second favorite anime. ^_^v Aside from The Guyver, all the anime that people have suggested thus far are already on my full list of competitors. But it is good to see what people would like to see compete the most, and I love getting more suggestions, just in case it is something I've left off my master list.

As for not getting to see alot of the anime on the list, have you thought about renting it? That's how I see almost all of my anime. I can't watch it on television since I refuse to watch dubs. Rental stores are starting to carry a bit more anime, and if you happen to live in a town with either a university or a large Asian population, you might be able to find a small rental place/comic book shop with a large anime selection. My local shop has just about any anime I'd ever want to see, and on Thursday nights, it's only $1 per rental, which is quite nice for someone like me who's on a tight budget but can't live without seeing a lot of anime each week. ^_-

I haven't watched either, but I picked the first one because 1) I love romantic stories, and 2) As much as I love Square Enix, that art is just... not what appeals to me. The other one looks much better :P.

Never seen Ayashi no Ceres.

Whee, I've only seen a couple of FMA episodes, but I already like it! <3

I voted for Full metal Alchemist cos the pic looks cool

Thu Nov 17, 2005 2:09 pm

o_o This one was difficult ... I love them both xP

Ceres.

Thu Nov 17, 2005 9:50 pm

Mwerf. I don't like you anymore, Jade T_T

FMA. It's one of the best storylines I've ever seen, Paku-sama's in it, the art is fantastic, the characters all rock, it's funny, it made me cry, it provides almost limitless doujin opportunities, Paku-sama's in it, the soundtrack is great, Paku-sama's in it and I could go on, but I'll save you all the time and effort of having to scroll down more.

Oh, and I'm religiously obliged to vote for it, unless I want to be smote with the holy Rake of justice in my sleep ^^;;;;

Renkinjutsushi is one word!

EDIT: Fixed spelling. It was driving me crazy.

Title corrected. Anime Academy had it spelled the wrong way, and given that I didn't even have enough time to write the synopsis, I definitely didn't have time to double-check their spelling. AA, you have foresaken me. :P

Never seen FMA, because they don't play anime on any of my 3 channels

-_-

And I am planning to read it, but my manga supplier keeps loaning them out to Ri-chan. :x

So, I'm going with Ceres. <3 <3
