[Please Lock] Anime Versus (Week 10)

Wed Dec 28, 2005 11:27 pm

Greetings, and welcome to Anime Versus. Like it's predecessors, Anime Versus will pit two competitors against each other each week, to see which one PPTers prefer. To vote, please select the anime you like best from the poll at the top of this topic, then feel free to discuss your choice below. The winner of the week will move onto the next round, and will face a new challenger anime. Should an anime win for six weeks straight, it will be removed from the competition and placed into the Anime Hall of Fame.

Last week, Fullmetal Alchemist defeated Cowboy Bebop by ten votes. With that victory it has now been retired from competition. This week will begin a special five-week showdown of shoujo anime. Each competitor will fall at least loosely into the shoujo category. To start things off, we'll go with a couple of well-known series.

Series Information:

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (a.k.a Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon, a.k.a. Sailor Moon) is a mahou shoujo (magical girl) series produced by Toei and originally created by Takeuchi Naoko (manga). With 200 episodes, it originally aired in Japan from 3/7/92 to 2/8/97, with four of the five seasons having been translated and shown on American television.*

Tsukino Usagi was your average junior high student. Well, maybe a bit below-average. Between failing grades, a tendency toward oversleeping, and a near-terminal case of clumsiness, she hardly seems like the first choice for a guardian of justice. But when a black cat named Luna gives her a transformation brooch, Usagi finds out that she is the magical warrior, Sailor Moon. As her dear friends and fellow Senshi gather around her, she’ll face evil forces, true love, and her own destiny.

Primary Seiyuu for Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon**

His and Her Circumstances (a.k.a. Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, a.k.a. Kare Kano) is a romantic comedy produced by Gainax. It aired from 10/2/98 to 3/26/99 with 26 episodes.*

Miyazawa Yukino’s life is a fraud. While at school, she’s the picture of the model student with great grades, athleticism, a friendly nature, and a willingness to take on responsibilities. However, this is all an act to keep her in the center of attention. She’s actually a self-serving workaholic that will do anything to be adored. But when she enters high school another student, Arima Souichirou, turns out her equal in just about every way. Of course, sparks fly and a bit of romance begins to bloom as the two ‘perfect’ students face off.

Ooh...this is hard for me, actually. They both have a special place in my heart....Sailor Moon was my first taste of anime, though, so I guess that gets my vote.

I watched Sailor Moon (or parts of it :P,) didn't like it ... so I'll go with Kare Kano. The art looks nice anyway xP

I have to say Sailor Moon... a lovely childhood favorite.

Sailor Moon is my choice. I loved that show when I was small.

Sailor Moon =P. Omg, I watched that show so much when I was small. I loved how they could use their "powers", and I always loved astronomy, so the inclusion of planets didn't hurt XD.

I still have a lot of Sailor Moon videos too...

Easy choice for Sailor Moon since it is the only one of the two that I have seen. My older brother is way more into it than I am, but I did see a few too many episodes for my current tastes. Best part of the series has to be Tuxedo Mask. He is the ultimate Bishounen after Yuy Heero (speaking from a completely hetero view mind you).

PS: If you are going to have a Shouju Showdown, add Galaxy Angel to the list. I am somewhat addicted to Shouju (because they have the type of stories I like, not action/gore fests like boy's comics), and GA is easily one of the best I have ever read/seen.

Ack! I totally forgot! >_<

Sailor Moon wins, 19-3, I'll get the next week up here shortly.
