My mother and I were actually talking about ET one day because it was the first movie I have ever seen in theators that I actually sat through. I was like..2 or something when it first came out. We were trying to figure out what would make a good sequel and we came up with an idea.
In our idea Elliot is very sick with a very rare diseasae. He still remembers ET but he is the only one who remembers him very well and most of the other people in his life have either forgotten ET or just grew up and pretended it never happened. Elliot almost gives in and just forgets too, until he gets sick. Then the memories start coming back to him. He is about to die and all he can talk about is ET. His family start talking to him about it, because that is all that brings him any hope and that is about all that interests him these days.
You know, ET was a space traveler and collected plants from all over the universe? Well ET and Elliots connection was never really broken. ET could sense his friend needed help, so of course in the end he comes back to Earth, as Elliot is about to die. Elliot wants to go to the woods one more time. He nearly doesn't make it, but he has faith that ET will come. And then of course he does. Ane he happens to have some weird plant from space that can cure Elliot and others with the disease.
And I like my version better than that because I think of ET as the hero instead of Elliot. Of course the aliens don't need OUR help. Look at our planet and how messed up it is! If anything we would need the aliens help!

I'm sorry but I think he is a sell out. I'm not sure how many of you remember but in the ORIGINAL release those were GUNS the govt agents were carrying not flashlights. When he gave the go ahead to make that change I lost all respect for him. I think Drew is just desperate to work and now she's dragging Steven down with her and E.T.!
