First of all, just let me say I can't sing. I mean, anyone can attempt to sing, but you know, really sing good. I can't do that. I love to sing to myself though and my cat likes it. But I know I'm not good. I have to say that if anything everyone was very very brave to go on that show, in front of MILLIONS of people or more. Yes brave and also foolish. But maybe they had friends who said they could sing and they wanted to believe that. I say, record yourself singing. Take a look at how you look. Compare it to other people. Have a LOT of people watch it and not your friends. If you feel like you can't sing, and get some strangers opinion, and they say you stink, be inclined to believe it. Then maybe a few people in your town know you stink and not the whole world. But what really matters in the end is that the people you love like to hear you sing, and even if it stinks, they'll love you. So if you have that going on, well it will still be waiting for you when you get back home.
Last season I didn't watch American Idol at all. And that is all everyone talked about. I felt left out so I decided I'd watch tonight, just to know what the heck everyone was talking about. So far, I know this is the audition, but I haven't seen anyone who blew me away yet. Even those people who are pretty good need a few lessons. I can't sing, but I know what I like and what I think sounds good. I like all kinds of music from rock to country, so a lot of things appeal to me. I hate it when people who don't like rock or don't get it judge other people, because they think screaming isn't singing. Well it isn't but some people like it. There is a style to it that makes it good. It's not really singing to me, but some people who do rock don't scream. Either way, the judges should be open minded to all types of music and not judge based on their own personal preferences, which I think is happening in this competition.
Common mistakes people make when audtioning. This is just my own opinion though.
1. People try to "jazz it up" a bit by adding oohs and aahs and stuff. If you can't pull this off, don't attempt it.
2. Singing out of your range. Sorry, but if you can't hit a note, then find a song in a different range to sing, or find out how to sing it lower. Don't try to hit a high note you can't hit, or try to sing high thinking you'll impress someone.
3. Holding a note too long. That just doesn't impress anyone, really!
4. If you don't know the words to a song, find out what they are. If you still don't know them, find a song you do know the words to. By all means, don't attempt to sing the star spangled banner if you don't know the words!
5. Practice Practice Practice. I don't think a lot of these people even practiced!
Some of the people tonight were very funny. I feel very sorry for them, but they were hilarious to me. They should consider a career as comedians.
Spank me girl Mary: She wins my award for funniest girl. I loved her moves, her voice stank but she was hilarious.
Derik- The weird guy who sang like he was freezing to death and shivering and singing at the same time. He was funny to me.
Michelle (mosquito girl)-LOL sorry, but that was funny.
Mary Roach - Does anyone think she looks like that girl on Rosanne..Becky? Maybe they'll remake the movie and she can get a Job. LOL LOL that girl was freaking crazy! The voices in my head say I can sing. Also, I feel very bad for her and I almost wanted to cry for her, but she was so bad. I don't know what it feels like to be her, but I think she is going to have to dye her hair, wear sunglasses, and move to some place where people don't have televisions. The poor thing. That part at the end was scary, where she was all "I'll just do hair" she looked so mad like she was psycotic.. I can't sing either and I'd probably sound just like that if I went on there. I have sense enough not to though.
Sad People:
Jessie- He forgot the words and started crying. I think the judges were kind of trying not to be mean. But it still was sad. I don't want to make fun of him.
Amanda "God wants me to sing" girl: I felt so sorry for her. I think her voice cracked or something. She started off pretty good I think.
Poor thing.
Melissa: That nasally girl. That was bad and sad. I wanted to laugh at her but I felt so sorry for her.
There was another Melissa later that was pretty good, she sang the anthem.
People I though had Promice:
Sean
John
Fanchon
Anwar
Regina Brooks (I sold my wedding rings to be here girl): I want her to make it, she sounded pretty good, and she seemed more real. I don't know if the judges just pitied her. I did too. But she was pretty good I think too. I'll keep an eye out for her. But she does need some coaching I think.
Marlena
Contantine (Band dude): That whole deal with the band seems very staged/rigged, whatever. Like the Jerry Springer show meets American Idol.
People to watch: Travis Tucker. Ok at first he was like dancing and doing this do do do thing. If that is all he did he would have just been kicked out. But then they said something like "are you going to sing now" and he belted out "isn't she lovely" and it was good! I can't believe it. I mean, I don't know why he got another chance to sing, but some others didn't, but I was very surprised because he sounded the best to me.
Still I am looking for some real talent and I just haven't seen much tonight. Maybe tomarrow. I think they are showing us most of the rejects tonight. I think the judges were harsh! I mean, some poor people just left crying. I couldn't do that to people to their face like that. Some of those were so horribly wrong that they just were beyond words even. I think the judges should just say "Yeah, you pass"or "Nope sorry". No praise or rejection. But then again, that won't sell the show. Viewers out there love action and to see people in tears as they are rejected so harshly, so that sells. Yeah, I laughed at a lot of people, but I remember they are people and have feelings. At least the can't see me laugh at them now. If I saw them in the street or at school, I think I'd try to say something nice, like how brave they were to even go on.
