Meh, if they're not going to be eating cookies, the children will be eating crisps or something. *shrug* It's not like the children were eating cookies due to the cookie monster in the first place, but never mind. *wittering*

Get. Off. My. Childhood! *beats them over the head* Jesus. Perhaps if PARENTS actually educated their kids, we wouldn't have a bunch of lard buckets running around.

You know, I don't think a muppet is going to affect any small child's diets. No kid is going to watch Cookie Monster sing about tomatoes and carrots and then choose a celery stalk over a cookie for a snack. Their parents or gaurdians should teach them that, not some big blue puppet!

And I just saw it on a news commercial while watching TV. Blah.

*sigh*

Well...

*cracks up laughing*

Ok, as much as I hate children's television, because I watch a 2 year old so often, and there's only so many times you can watch a single episode of Dora the Explorer (My limit is 5 at the moment... Although I can sing all the songs now!), but this is really going overboard... I even remember that song!

Although, the story of how Barney got fired was pretty funny...

I think that it isn't right to blame parents. It's the kids. If they want Junk they'll end up getting it!

I'm not saying this from the sidelines. I myself struggle with my weight and do not apreciate the lard bucket remark.
I used to do it... and I now regret it...

i was raised properly.
i dont whinge when i dont get what i want.
i dont throw a hissy fit when i dont get what i want.
"like it or lump it"
heck, maybe its just because my parents are from a better time, or maybe because they wanted their children, and we werent born of an accident.
well, okay, i was, but they accepted it was their own responsibility to bring me up properly.
its the parents. not the children.

and other than that, werent there already singing carrots, or was that another dellusion of grandeur?

Why does this new song remind me of Avenue Q? Maybe cause Avenue Q tells things like it is. This song reminds kids that if you eat too many cookies, you'll get fat and no one will love you, cause you're not attractive. That actually sounds like something that could fit into Avenue Q.

I think I've been listening to the Avenue Q soundtrack too much...

Considering America has a large obesity problem, I'm not suprised.

Oh yes. We're fat and we know it (Well...I'm not...but what does the minority matter?). I didn't think we'd resort to preschool brainwashing, but then again, that did help cull the smoking problem, didn't it?

I read an article that said they're going to get an ear of corn to teach kids the difference between "sometimes" foods and "anytime" foods. I think chips would fall under that first category.

I think the worst about this is that it may open doors to Seseme Street or other shows to change furthur. Bert will start talking about how he has OCD because he always cleans, and you shouldn't clean ALL the time, but just enough. Oscar will have a big speech about how he's rude and he should learn some manners and get out of his trash can and go over to Ernie's for a game of Bingo.
*sigh*

What I meant was that parents need to be able to control their children. They need to be able to tell their kids "no," which I find alot of parents have trouble with. I was raised to eat healthy, and eat sugar after eating something healthy, but parents nowadays seem to let their kids eat whatever they want and then complain when their kids are overweight.

I'm sorry if I offended you. :( Honestly I didn't mean to. What I meant was that parents need to be able to control their children. It's a comfort and reward thing. *psychology student's babble* If a kid is upset or has done something really good, the parent rewards them with a snack such as chocolate or sweets. As the child gets older, they associate chocolate and sweets with comfort and rewards so whenever they're upset in later life, they use food as a source of comfort. Hence the tubbiness.

Me, I was rewarded with a new book or an extra dance lesson. Hence the hyperactive imagination and weight problem but from the other end of the spectrum.

Anyway, back on topic. They have gotta be kidding. Are kids going to eat plates just because the cookie monster does?!

I keep hoping this will go away. I thought it had to be a joke when Igg showed it to me.

I don't even know how to react, it's just so absurd.

Cookie Monster is FAT. It's not like it's saying eat loads of cookies and you'll be thin. And besides that, he's a MONSTER WITH THE WORD COOKIE IN HIS NAME. OBVIOUSLY HE EATS COOKIES.

::stabs whatever idiots thought of this::

He doesn't eat half the cookies. Well he doesn't eat any ofthem, as he lacks a throat and anyway just generally smashes them in his facial area.

There was one instance that I "forgave" Cookie Monster for not eating cookies (a segment that was first shown in the late 80s-early 90s with him in a Run DMC-like costume and rap about healthy foods)... it did say in gist that "I love cookies, but I do like healthy foods as well." I think that would have been a better message than what they are trying to convey with it being a "sometimes food".

Having him totally convert for being the cookie love to "meh" to cookies is just so wrong.... they've ruined a classic childhood icon :(
