I still think Gordon Freeman could kick those tripods butts, and, the tripods look alot like striders...

Could someone find me a good picture of the tripod thing, so I could compare it to a strider?

now i wonder where half life 2 got its inspiration from...

Actually, I think it's the other way around.

so, are you saying that the jeff wayne musical released in 1978 was not the inspiration for hl2's striders?

It was a great movie...a little psycho, but hey, sci-fi is psycho.

Exactly! How the heck did that son survive and How on earth was their condos not even touched??
They're supposed to be in Boston right? A nice BIG city.. it's hard to believe that the aliens wouldn't have attacked it first ya know?
Oh they'll attack the country side with only a few people scattered here and there first, but they'll leave the big cities for last! YEAH!

Heh it's still a pretty entertaining, but you do need to kinda.. overlook the dumb stuff :P heh

I actually thought the movie was kinda stupid...or at least the ending was. What role did the birds have in killing the machines?
And they shouldn't have all come out alive. Someone should've died. There was no way that son could've survived.
But I at least thought the acting was good.

I thought it was a great movie. It wasn't the best movie ever, but it was good. Too many people gripe about it because it's updating a major classic. Get over it.

Fzun -
Well, the aliens were killed by bacteria, viruses, and other things that humans and other lifeforms can survive against. I'm not sure if they were trying to show that the birds were actually spreading the disease, or just that the shields had actually been breached) since it occured that to them that shield was gone as soon as he noticed the birds. Anyway, the birds weren't exactly the ones that killed them. Also, aliens also entered the water under that crazy guy's house, which was also full of things that would later kill them.

The only part I didn't care for in the movie was the ending (with all relatives, even the step-father) living. Then they also had to go and make two of the original cast members the grand-mother and grand-father. Things don't just happene in such coincidence as that. It may have been nostalgic for some, but it really wasn't, as the movie doesn't follow the book or the original all that well.

the birds didnt really play a role in destroying the robots..they were just there to land on the robot to indicate that the sheilds and gone down..what a mystery..!! o_O

I saw it few weeks ago and I really loved it. The actings were really good. I was really surprised. That "Ovigily" dude really got to my nerves. Anyway, 10/10 from me. I'm definitely getting the DVD. 8)

I saw it for my birthday... that Dakota Fanning was good even if she did scream a lot, and I was a bit scared during the first hour because I had eaten non-stop popcorn and felt naseaus. XD

How did the son survive?

Well, being uber emo, the son would have loved to have died, to take him away from the pain of the world.

So of course he doesn't die, allowing him to continue in perpetual emo-osity.

No. Just, no. The son, being so super emo, but also a real authentic all-american hero, contained so much common cultural energy, which, if mixed with the powerful catalytic substance called Patriotism, would have caused nearly two thirds of the universe to become engulfed in 200,000,000ºC plasma.

Thus it was impossible to kill him off.

So all you emo kids out there, keep on-a-rocking!
