Okay I've recently learned that both INXS and TLC are having TV Reality/Contest programs where everyday people can compete to become new group members (American Idol style)... to replace the dead original members.
Do you think this is a good idea? Will you watch the shows?

I personally think these ideas are stupid. They somehow seem disrespectful to the original members-- like saying "We're gonna replace you by cashing in on Reality TV since it's the biggest television craze now-a-days."

What's that strange sound I hear? Oh, it's Michael Hutchence spinning in his grave. :/

Whilst I don't think it's tasteful to do it via a 'Pop Idol' show, if the remaining members of the bands wish to continue then I can't see anything particulalry wrong with that - bands like Queen have done the same, mainly to enable them to tour again.

I think INXS are, and always were, a mistake.

**agrees agrees**

Continuing on your own is one thing.

Having a reality show to replace the dead is another thing. It sickens me, and you know that publicity is what's really on their mind. They could replace the band member privately, but by turning it into a spectacle like that, they're just doing it to get noticed.

When they die, Michael's gonna kick them around in the afterlife. They deserve it.

Slightly offtopic, but Michael Hutchence got me thinking- Bob Geldolf is a Saint when it comes to childcare.

Don't care about TLC show b/c I've never liked them...
But the INXS show is pretty entertaining.
It's like a rock version of American Idol and there are some really good singers on the show.

I don't see it as disrespectful at all. It's tragic what happened to the TLC girl and to the singer of INXS, but that shouldn't mean that the remaining bunch should just go hide in a hole somewhere. The surviving people want to keep doing what they love and if doing a reality tv show to get a new singer and get their names back out there, then more power to them.

And by the way, aren't the Gorillaz doing something similar to this?

Inxs died when Michael Hutchence did....and lets face it, besides touring their time is pretty much over.

I think the other members probably blew all their cash on drugs and booze and are now trying to get their retirement funds together.

They've had two different singers since Michael died, and neither really worked out. It's time to give it a rest.
