Books that gave you Nightmares

Thu Sep 09, 2004 12:57 am

Yes...the ones that send a chill down your spine, and you can't sleep because your thinking about them. And them when you finally drift off to nod, you have nightmares.

Has this happened to you before? It has to me. The Spidren(Giant Spiders with human heads for the Tortall books) scare the heck out of me. I mean, its bad enough that I'm afraid of spiders but.....THEY KILLED TWO KITTENS!
God, I'm glad I didn't get that part when I was eight years old. I would of been scared for life.

I'm also scared of The Others from Song of Ice and Fire, but I've never had nightmares about them

What about you?

Hmmm.......I don't think a book has ever given me nightmares. A couple of Stephen King's short stories have kind of freaked me out, but nothing that lasted into my sleep.

no books (or movies for that matter) have ever given me a real nightmare. but when i was reading helter skelter, the power went out and i started freaking out (they cut the phone lines before they killed the people).

i read a book of ghost stories in maybe first or second grade, and one story gave me nightmares. It was about a ghost truck that backed out of these bushes and caused accidents. Halloween: Resurrection gave me a nightmare too.

No, it's Stephen King.

No, I haven't came across a book (or film) that has managed to give me a nightmare.

I haven't came across a book scary enough(and I have read plenty of scary books) that has giving me nightmares yet.

It's kinda hard for you to dream about the stories in books, unless you really keep turning it over in your mind right before you sleep. Anyway, horror stories seldom scare you once you are past 15.

I dunno. I dream scenes from stories all the time. They get stuck in my head and I play them out to various conclusions. If I could ever be bothered writing them down, some of them would make terrific fan-fiction.

Anyway, on topic...

I've never actually read a book that's given me nightmares. However, when I was younger (like 8... so a good 15 years ago) I was really scared of all things supernatural, and my best friend gave me a book of ghost stories for my birthday. It had a really vivid cover, with ghosts, blood and green ooze, etc on it. Anyway, I had nightmares about it without ever opening the book. In fact, I still can't look at that book without it giving me shivers. So I gave it to my brother who loves that sort of thing :D

Well, if a book can make you dream about it when you sleep, then its author has really done a great job. :D

I don't believe I have ever gotten a nightmare from a book, movie, or television program. I'm really not into scary stuff, so I never read/watch scary things- so it would make sense that I don't have nightmares. ;)

Although it didn't give me nightmares, Michael Crichton's Sphere did disturb me for quite some time.

I don't think I've ever really gotten nightmares, but I have read books that make me totally paranoid for a week or so. Can't think of any off the top of my head, but there've been a good number. =P
