now, maybe he did take a small bit of JK's magic, but he's just a kid. It's not like he copied the whole book word for word and claimed it as his own! :o

I thought it was pretty good, though I'm not sure it was quite worth buying in hardcover. Some elements seemed obviously ripped off of other stories, but it also had some merit in itself...I'll want to read the sequel, but I'll definetly be waiting for paperback.

I got it in hardback, although I've never actually SEEN in in paperback :P Anyway, I only bought it because it was rather thick and I needed something to read on the way home from...London, I think it was O.o

I always want to read sequels, it's like Harry Potter, I've gone off it somewhat but I have to see what happens :P

I thought it was a decent read. The stories good enough, if pretty predictable. The writer is 15, and you can tell.... it's well written, but it's not written particularly maturely.

Yea, well that doesn't mean it isn't! ::coughs::

OK, to be honest...I bought it from Wal-Mart because I had packed all my books and I was depressed and had nothing to read and the library was closed.

Anyway, mostly what Igg said. If I don't read sequels, I'll be in a bookstore or something one day, and think, "Wow, I wonder whatever happened to [insert name here]..."

No she backs the book.

And we really shouldn't tell much about it so as not to spoil it for those who haven't read it.

You know, the author DID say he took bits and pieces of LoTR and DRoP and used them. Star Wars? o.O Oook...

Anyways, I absolutely love this book. I finished it in 3-4 days it was so good. And it's on the New York Times Bestseller List for kids or whatever.

In the old forum I wrote a scathing post about why I thought Paolini was a horrible writer (after which some guy who couldn't even spell his name right attempted to tell me with almost-chatspeak that I had no right to do so. *mutters*). But upon rereading it a second time, I thought, "Well, even though most of the elements from this world are ripped off from well-established fantasy writers/series (Dragonlance is one that hasn't been mentioned), the story's still pretty good." Although on some days, the almost lack of originality drives me up the wall. =P

Does any1 know what happened to the website the book mentions for his series. I always get a under construction page.

I hated the book. It was a ripoff of Lord of the Ring and Dragon Riders of Pern. The only reason I'll read the 2nd book is to see what other book they ripped off.

I knew as soon as I read the firs paragraph the book would be no good. "Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world. A tall Shade lifted his head and sniffed the air. He looked human except for his crimson hair and maroon eyes." I mean... :loser:

No... it was another one she was gonna sue.

Eragon was pretty cool. But, man, the stealing was obvious. When JK steals it's really hard to spot- but... that was Star Wars meets LOTR. Just once I'd like to see something where the nephew gets killed and the uncle goes out for revenge.

(I have no beef with nieces- or sister-daughters if you prefer- avenging uncles. Begone Foul Dwimmerlaiks all around!)

Oh yeah. Total ripoff...blatant even. but a good filler book.

I'm reading it right now. Isn't it a coincidence that the quietest and last name that Brom mentioned was what Eragon named his dragon

Now where the heck is Eldest? (second part of the trilogy).
