I am so proud of me. For the first time ever, I'm completing steps in a plot and THEN coming to PPT.

I did that too :) I decided to try getting through a step without visiting a board first.

I had to come to ppt to translate the directions for the step, because I kept getting so confused, heh. I probably did the 3rd puzzle two dozen times, but my last try I lucked out - figured out the very first and the very last symbol, then tried to fit what was in the middle and it turned out to be all four of the same thing. :)

At least the gave us a reasonable number of tries in this puzzle... the game could get outrageously hard if they reduce the number of tries by 60% or sth.

This does has the same number of difficulty rounds as tetris, but forgot to refresh after finishing the third one.

I do a similar method as Couch, but instead of switching them all to one, i keep three as blank, and move the top three (for the last puzzle that was). If all three get greens or yellows, i'm sure to try a fourth, but generally there won't be, and that way you have a pretty good idea of if you have to move them. So i keep one blank until i know what all the symbols are. Took me about 10 minutes.

Thank you so much, I was stuck on the third puzzle and that method helped loads.

If anyone has continual difficulties, I suggest they search around for Time Tunnel guides. It's basically the same game.

You can also practise with Time Tunnel, which is a little easier as the colours are clearer than the symbols, and you get history.

HTH.

i think my 3rd puzzle has a glitch. it only gives me 0 tries and wont show me any lights if they are correct. does everyones 3rd puzzle only have 6 positions to place symbols in

Edit:

ok this is weird i went back to the journal and then back to my puzzle and i got the picture showing me i finished all 3 puzzles *scratches head*

On a non-code breaking note... anyone else think that this puzzle is a sign that the plot will not be updated over the weekend? They wouldn't give us this challenge only to remove it 24 hours later.

I just solved the third puzzle.
Here's how I did it:
I took out a piece of paper and I wrote down each symbol to keep a tally of how many times a symbol appears in the puzzle. Then I wrote down six lines to represent the rings as I got them for sure right or for sure wrong (if the symbol does not go on that ring I wrote down the symbol and put an X through it).
Next I followed previous posters suggestions of trying all the rings with the same symbol. Say the symbol you get from turning the ring once. I make the rings ALL that symbol. Press the button. Make a note of how many are that symbol. If there's only one that is that symbol LEAVE the first ring as that symbol and turn the rest of the rings once to the next symbol. If there's two then leave the first two, etc.
Also while you're counting the symbols keep track of your green lights. If your green light count goes down after you've changed a bunch of rings then you know what ever you just changed the symbols from belongs in one of those rings.
Third or fourth try I got a puzzle that the first symbol appeared three times and the fourth symbol appeared three times. I probably lucked out and you probably will too, just keep at it.
If you don't like my method: fine, good luck to you. If it helps you out: very cool.

I got it, but it took an hour. I kept a record of each try and figured it out by referring to previously tried locations. I tried all the same symbol first. For the number of greens on the first symbol, I left that number of rings alone and put the second symbol in the other rings. and so forth. I kept track of how many of each symbol were needed. After I got all the needed symbols, I tried switching them around to see how many greens I could get.

I was confused when the puzzle ended. I was taken to a new puzzle that had a big zero in the middle. I could move the rings, but when I clicked the circle it reloaded. So I clicked back to the journal, and saw nothing new, so I clicked back to the puzzle, and the screen came up saying I'd won.

A new single panel cartoon came up describing finding something and picking it up.

i love these puzzles. that was awesome!

edit: did anyone actually get an object after the puzzle? Even though it said I picked something up, there was nothing in my inventory.

Piece of paper really helps. On the first ring, I kept switching until I found the correct symbol, and noted which ones light up a yellow light. I then continued the process with each ring, and solved the (third) puzzle on my second try solving it this way.

I told myself I wouldn't go to bed until I finished, and by God, I've done it!

I ended up having to use a piece of paper, although I told myself Heck, I don't need one of those!

I drew the six blocks, and started with the first one going through all the possibilities, leaving the others blank. I wrote down the ones that turned yellow, meaning they're somewhere else in the puzzle, and the ones that didn't bring any color, meaning they're no where in the puzzle, and continued down the line once I found the green one. It really helped!

*lol* Reminds me of the movie King Kong with that map. Shows that big fly guy in the middle of the woods on the map. Then finding the grumpy captain in the tavern, etc. Plus the giant slugs or whatever they were. Everything is "Really Big"
