This board is for anything to do with the Pink Poogle Toy Forum. If you have a question or want to suggest any ideas, then this is the place to do it.

I think it would be nice to have some kind of board for discussing current events and news. I'm quite interested in that sort of stuff, but there doesn't really seem to be a place to discuss that now. I realize it could probably go in Miss. Discussion, but it doesn't seem to fit in there to me.
Anyway, if this idea has already been given or whatnot- sorry. What does everyone else think?

Since I don't see that many threads on it, I personally don't see the need for such a board (if it was important enough to the member, it would be posted in Miscellanous Discussion.) I also think that many cases of current events also lead to stuff in our debate group

Well, I know I would post more of them, but whenever I had something to post I really didn't know where it would fit. I know quite a few different boards (NNN is just one I think of on the top of my head) and they are very active- and there are many posts in them.

Yes but NNN is far far different then any of the other boards we have. I don't see the point for it either. As Rune said, many such posts lead to the Debate group. And many posts could be quite controversial as well, which would turn into debates.
I don't see the need for it.

I grudgingly agree with the above lines of reasoning, but highly encourage you to post whatever you were thinking of in Misc. Disc. (if it's *gasp* non-controversial) or in the Debate board if it is, because I love current events and it would make me really happy to see more about them.

I think having a current events thread (maybe even stickied) in the Debate board would work out perfectly.

I second that. I enjoy discussing current World News as well. However, I've never done it since there never seemed to be a place to do so.

I think a sticky in Debate would get really messy. Current events for everyone all over the world in one thread seems a bit disorganized.

They could just state where the news is coming from.

I dunno, I think it'd be sort of like the unreleased thread in General, people could post about events as they come up, and people can discuss them as they see fit.

It worked well at NNN (if memory serves) and it's working very well at SD.net. Perhaps it, too, can be made to require usergroup registration. Debate there would also be prevelant, but many articles can be posted without pushing down non-article topics in The Debating Room. In a board with this much activity, success is more likely.

I agree. It would be very unfocused too, if there are many current issues for discussion at one time.
If you check the debate board, most of the debates are started with a news article, or are about current issues. If we had a sticky for them then there would be far less ongoing debate topics.

No, I don't think a sticky would work either.
I hear people say that we shouldn't have it- because it leads to debates. However, not all people want to be signed up for the debate board, and therefore can't see the news posted there.
I agree with the ide a of a usergroup. That way if people want to discuss current events, they would have to show they want to.
Also, if a topic is getting too much into a debate, a mod can easily move that topic to debate if they feel neccesary.

It's a good idea, but how many people would really use a usergroup like that at the moment? We try to be very selective with what usergroups we impliment, I would think for the most part stuff like that would remian on a public board (even then I see it being very limited to a few posts in Misc. Discussion) with more debateable stories in Debate.

I agree with the stiky thread for current affairs. I think not a lot of current affairs are posted as people know they will get reprimanded for it.
