Spoiler Tag

Fri Sep 10, 2004 6:06 am

Recently I've noticed around the forums, especially in the Entertainment category, spoilers have been posted in tiny text. While it's easy to copy-paste into a Word program, it tends to get annoying after a while.

My suggestion is this mod - it's a basic spoiler tag, but it could help out a lot.

Obviously, having a forum of my own, I realise that it takes time to install mods and there are other things of higher priority, but there's no harm in suggesting it :)

In my opinion, the tiny text works okay. I don't really see a need for the mod.

Personally I did find it annoying to copy and paste the tiny text into the address bar to read it, so I just started clicking the quote button (like you're going to quoute their message) and then you can read it in regular size text.

How exactly does the spoiler tag hide things? I clicked on view demo, but I couldn't find an example that worked.

Well, if it's anything like the spoiler tag I've seen, the enclosed text is in a black or white box, and the text within is also black or white. You read the spoiler by highlighting the box. Nice little tag, saves you one extra second from clicking Quote.

The spoiler tag on the IDB Forums go like this :

Below your message, it will have :

You click, and it displays the info right under their message. :)

I'm with the suggestion on this one, tiny text is annoying and well, its just much more easier (IMO) if that lil' add-on was thrown on somewhere. Not too much of a time saver, but hey, it keeps things on the same page doesn't it? :)

They have those on a anime forum I go to. They're pretty cool. I'm for them, becuase I really don't like it when people post spoilers ot the YGO movie. It reminds me more how much I wan't to see it.

It would also come in handy in the Console and Gaming board, especially when people decide to post the ending to a game...

phpBB has its own version of that, which, I believe, works completely the same: Hide BBcode MOD.

I believe it to be an exceptional modification worth implementation if the person who implements modifications for this board (Jim, right?) has the time.

By the way, in that thread, you'll find that a demo is provided. I think it can be found about three posts down (the link to the demo board).

Along with some topics in Misc Discussion (eg, the one about the puzzle "The House"). Of course, like I said, it's not necessary, it'd just make things just the tiniest bit easier :)

There's no need for two spoiler tags, and assuming that the staff do implement one (again, if time permits them), I believe the mod I originally suggested is probably easier to implement.

And Hunter is the main one who installs mods, not Jim, though I believe other admins have installed things before.
