in regards to my other topic made in GC, Nortan kept coming up and telling me that this KVG thing wanted to access the internet. I told it to block it. (again, and again, and again). I found it in C:/WINDOWS and in C:/startup but it keeps coming back. I really don't want to download a program if I can help it, as my parents aren't very fond of it. where is the main file?

Chances are if you delete it, it will automatically appear again. Just download the program, run it, then uninstall it if your parents don't like you downloading programs.

well, I downloaded that program and ran it.
It found:
-three adware
-one spy-cookie
-one trojan
- and 55 traces
and this was after I ran ad-aware and spybot S&D -_-
at least I got rid of it all.

thanks everybody (SL and Rune esp.) for helping me out.

I got the script error again just now. I don't have any viruses, but I can't access PPT on IE at all -- I get that script error and then an "invalid page fault" error, and I have to shut down IE. Hopefully you can figure out what's going on!

I'm having the issues again too. Got rid of the program recommended by SL though. It did not get along with my system at all. I'll hope for the best Adaware and Spybot. Last time, I didn't get anything anyway, although I'm still running a check on my system.

I got a report from Jas about it too. Unfortunatly I can't do anything on my end at the moment so I'm waiting to talk to Yukio about it.

Out of curiousity, how is this recent incident going?
Sat Dec 17, 2005 5:20 am

It ONLY pops up when I'm on PPT. But I'm using Firefox, not IE . . .
Sat Dec 17, 2005 5:53 am
Yes, I am currently using Firefox as well, and I noticed that when a page at PPT is loading, it says "waiting for hotstat.net"... that's the domain that was causing the problems, wasn't it? I hope it can't compromise Firefox! I have adblocked it just in case that helps. It had the type as "subdocument."

I never got the virus warning once with Firefox. Thanks for the advice about the Adblock. I hadn't thought of it. But is there still any risk if I hadn't done that ealier?
Sat Dec 17, 2005 6:37 am
I made it to the point that I blocked the address through manipulating the HOSTS file.
As someone who was hired as admin just for her pretty looks (meaning I have limited technical knowhow in this realm).... just in case, you should probably check even if you didn't see it.

I'm confused. I got the script thing yesterday, and it was bugging me a lot. Where should I get if there's a virus or not?
Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:10 pm
I tried to access the site using IE but the script promtp kept appearing, so I was forced to download Firefox. I remembered Spyware Sweeper (or whatever the program Yukio recommended last time was called) got rid of it, so I ran that and nothing was there. So, either the program's not as good as I thought it was or it's somehow found a way to stay hidden from the program.
PS: Can anyone tell me how to adblock in Firefox?
Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:38 pm
if under options you uncheck java, java script, and download programs on firefox it wont try to isntall it. but with ie ther eis no stop cause microsoft still hasnt put out hte fix yet
