Umm my town used to have all these shoe factories (I think my old history teacher said 81). We made a lot of shoes for soldiers during the Civil War.

But a few years later they all closed down and moved South, where labor was cheaper. There are still quite a few factories still around, but shoes aren't made there. Some are abandoned and I dont know what the remaining ones are used for.

Boston is famous for a lot more stuff though.

Well, Lancaster was once the capital of the USA for an ENTIRE day. :P

The city I live in was the end of the Oregon Trail. There's a giant replica of a covered wagon about a mile from my house, but the wind always makes the cover fall off...and it's also the original OC. :P

We're the capital of Saskatchewan. And we hosted the Grey Cup a couple of times.

Most suicides and teen drinking in the state. Possibly even the country.

Some of the worst roads in the country.

Big Dig.

Second oldest established town of the original 13 colonies.

Most recently?
That a school shooting here in 1997 (second school shooting in the U.S.) left 3 people dead, and 5 injured.

Other:
The Vice President (Alben Barkley) under President Eisenhower was from here.
A late 80s movie starring Bruce Willis (In Country) in and around my city, causing Bruce Willis to fall in love with it, he now informs other celebrities to vacation here to get away from crowds. (Jerry Seinfeld and Tiger Woods have both heeded his advice)
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter Rumer was born here.

I don't know much about my town. (Rotterdam, Dutch city)
Probably the drugs, prostitues, etc. Well, that's the only thing most non-Europeans know about Dutch towns.

Well, it's Los Angeles.

Entertainment industry.

And being an absolutely huge city.

But also a lot of stuff, I guess. I can't really think of specific things that we're known for more than anything else, but we're definitely on the map. :P

My town isn't usually on a lot of maps. Well, besides the really detailed ones of Nova Scotia. There isn't really much here. There used to be coal mines but they are all closed.

My town is famous for making pork pies and stilton cheese

The phrase "paint the town red" originates from my town as a group of huntsmen led by the Marquis of Waterford got really drunk and went round town painting buildings red.

Graham Chapman did come from here though, and my town is mentioned in a monty python sketch.

Philips (the electronics thingy) started here, in Eindhoven, and Ruud van Nistelrooy used to play in our soccer team PSV. :)
