I get allergies to metals except silver, gold or surgical steel.
So I can only wear silver earings.
My left ear is peirced 6 times and the right is peirced 3 times.
I'm getting a scaffold peircing done at the top of the right one this weekend, I hate getting peircings done I'm such a wuss when it comes to peircings.

A large portion of the population is allergic to nickel, which is a fairl common material in earrings. Some people just have to go through life looking for earrings that say, "Nickel free!" on the packaging. So it may not have been an infection some of you had, but a dermal reaction to nickel (turns red, pus comes out, stays moist, and dried skin and pus flakes off? That's an allergy).

As for getting the piercings, I recommend a reputable tattoo parlor (such things exist). Tattoo parlors do a lot of business, almost all of the employees are very well-trained, and in many states, they're licensed, so they have a financial incentive not to screw up.

Although getting them done at the doctor's office is good too.

I got my ears pierced as a baby. I was told later that his is the best time to pierce ears since the skin is really soft at that point.

It might have been an allergy you have, not an infection, Tyma. Lots of people have allergies to certain earring types. (Including me. >_<)

If you have an allergy, you might want to watch out for the earrings at Claire's. They're nothing but trouble. ._.;;

whilst on the topic of earrings and ears. whats the best way to clean earrings? i've got loads of old studs that i found, but they're not the cleanest. does anyone have any tips on cleaning them?

You see alot of them in the town I live. I think it's horrible and very irresponsible to pierce a baby's ears. A baby can't look after it's piercings.

technically that's true, as when you're born your skull is made up of 200 or something bones, which then fuse together as you grow older. probably not reccomended tho!

Actually, there're only a couple dozen. It's mostly cartilage.

And yeah, you can mold a baby's head when they're really little. But the question is: Why do you want a kid with an odd-shaped head? Schoolchildren these days are mean enough as it is, do you really want to give them a legitimate reason to nickname your son or daughter "conehead?"

I've seen a baby that quite literally has a flat head. Looking at the front of Hugo's head you'd think "aww, his head is so round and cuute." But once his mother turned him, you realize how much time that baby spends laying in his crib.

I had my ears pierced when I was about three. I only had problems with the piercings when I was a bit older, around ten or eleven. If you take care of the piercings properly you should be just fine. Use cleaning solution on them daily, turn the front and back pieces of the earrings to make sure they aren't on too tight. {It's not at all fun when the back digs into your ear and you don't notice until after it is infected and nearly embedded in your earlobe.}

Claires were ok for me actually. They gave me some special cleaning liquid to stop them getting infected. I've had mine done twice now (two sets of holes btw) and I've never really had any problems. Good luck anyway!

They were fine for me too. The only problem I had was that on the first hole I jumped slightly because it hurt and people told me it wouldn't hurt.

And the time I was wearing cross earrings for a few weeks and part of the cross went into my ear. Oh that was fun. But at least I didn't have to go to the docter.

when you get them pierced, get earring that are solid gold (no little rocks or diamonds or whatever). the glue that hold those extra pieces together does not help.
get it done at piercing pagoda, too. they have the special little earring backs that make sure the earring doesnt mess up.

I got both my holes there, and a soon-to-be cuff earring too!!! They are the best! Never got an infecton and had them since 3rd grade.

I just got mine pierced in March at Claires.We had a hard time getting the backs off and there was a little bit of crusty stuff on my ears and they bled a little from pulling on them so much and I kinda fainted like. But they're ok now. I hate changing them though.I haven't changed them since June and my mom's nagging at me to do so. About a week ago a misquito bit my left earlobe. So it kinda swelled up and itched and hurt to turn it.


With the proper care nothing should happen with your earrings. Proxide works great for cleaning them. All my earrings are Sensible Solutions or what ever it is from wal-mart. I put proxide on the earrings and then some neosporin on the earring it's self before putting them in my ear. and of course I clean my hole before putting earrings in too.

Try hydrogen peroxide for your ears, it works better than the stuff they give you, generally. Apply your H.P two times a day, and spin your studs around regularly, to prevent your studs from being swallowed up by your flesh. Okay, that sounded gross, I know.

For the first year or so after you take out your studs, only use high-quality earrings. Gold, or, if you like a silvery colour, WHITE gold, which looks even nicer than sterling and doesn't tarnish.

If you do get an infection, put H.P on your fingers and squeeze the infection really hard. It must be done. If it pops (I know it's sick, and that I'm revolting), use more peroxide on it.

If your infection literally comes out of the hole, or you have a red bump on your ear with no visible live skin on it, put ice on your infection and the area surrounding it until it is numb, and then get someone to prick the infection with a sterilized needle (Just dip a needle in H.P).

That happened to me once, and it ended up working.

I got my ears pierced a while ago, I forget when though. I think it was in grade four or five. I'm in grade six now, actually.

Oh yeah, and I can only wear silver, gold, and white gold, but I think it's best to not use silver or hypoallergenic stuff alot. I get allergies from the stuff at Claire's - thier earrings ar very cheap-ish.
