It's coming out December 14th in the US and... lots of places- there have been rumours that it comes four days earlier in Europe. Whimper!

It's going to be SO COOL. I've got a picture of the Black Breath taking Eowyn (Well finally)... well... two, really, but one is so funny it shouldn't count. There's going to be more Rohan (Hooray!) and more Gondor too! Plus (duh) houses of healing. Also, as shown on MTV sometime not-so-recently, Legolas, Eomer and Gimli (among others) have a drinking game! Place your bets, everyone... I say Eomer, but that's probably because he's my alter-ego's brother.

Eowyn alter-ego: *shakes head* No, it's a bad choice, trust me. I bet even Faramir could beat him.
Faramir: Hey! D'you MIND?
Eowyn alter-ego: Sorry.

Pippin gets a surprising amount of extra, as well as Eomer. Frodo and Sam find the smashed statue of the old King with the crown of flowers... gonna be so cool!

And, the best thing of all--

wait for it....

Eomer cries!
Eowyn alter-ego: *grins and gets out video recorder for blackmail*
Um.... he's crying about you.
Eowyn alter-ego: Ohh.... I know... I'll get my video recorder AND my camera!

Hurray! I've been so excited for this! I was bummed when I found out it wouldn't be released until December, but I suppose it makes sense; they want to cash in on Christmas sales.

It just makes me kind of sad that this is the end of it. For the past 3 years I've always had a new LOTR movie to look forward to at Christmas, and after this year there won't be any more!

Already got it ordered ;) We've got the other two extended editions, too.

I'm not sure when we get it though.

*Claps* I can't wait for it to be released. Peter Jackson and co. have been hard at work for the past year or so on it, so it should be as good, if not better than, the first two EEs. =D

*Has both EEs released, plus the RotK TE*

^o^

can't find the sig from this set, so instead, you get a <3 .

I just checked, we get our copy on the 10th. Sadly, that's when I'm going to be away.

That's probably going to be hidden right?

The EE of The FotR had somebody using the one ring for a piercing.
That somebody happened to be Jack Black...

The EE of The TT had Gollum's and Smeagol's acceptance speach to best computer created character...

These were both hidden on the first disc on scene selection, go to the very last scene ("The Council of Elrond" on the fellowship and "Of Herbs and STewed Rabit" on Towers) and hit down, the one ring will appear hit enter...

They're only on the extendeds. No, I don't think it'll be the easter egg, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be in the movie because it's not so OOC for the chars involved as the other two were.

A ROTK EE review by... some dude
So here we are, at the end of all things. At least, that’s what it feels like. This DVD marks the final step in an epoch-making journey whose cinematic closure has left a gaping hole in our festive arrangements; we’d got so used to Christmas round the Jacksons’, complete with Orc-bashing, Elf-prancing and Hobbit angst.

Return now clocks in at over four hours, yet never feels stretched. Jackson’s supreme gift has been one of total immersion; Middle-earth has remained vividly alive, from the sweeping prologue to The Grey Havens, and it swells again to the tune of 52 minutes and 300 added effects shots, taking the film ever closer to its source material.

It now seems pointless to contest idle arguments on theatrical versus extended editions. If you’ve come this far, you’re already sold, and this version completes nearly 12 hours of magnificent storytelling. The pace may slow, but the beauty soars with opulent layers of architecture, geography and dizzyingly complex mythos. That is the beauty of DVD that Jackson has recognised: the chance to gorge ourselves on his breathtaking universe.

So we are at last granted Saruman’s death scene, which does add credence to Christopher Lee’s griping; it would have settled things much better. The long, talky showdown atop Orthanc reminds you how lovingly he grasped the baroque twine of Tolkien’s prose and what a stone of conviction he was at the trilogy’s beginning.

Other characters are enriched, while aficionados will squeal with delight at the sleepy sadness of the Houses Of Healing, Frodo and Sam’s agonised march across Mordor and the arrival of enemy emissary The Mouth Of Sauron. With the demonic rumble of his voice cutting over a cemetery of brown fangs, he’s perhaps the single most revolting vision we’ve yet encountered, origin of species tantalisingly unclear — although he may have once fronted for The Sisters Of Mercy.

The director’s goofiness also comes to the fore, setting itself sturdily against the booming pomp of the epic format. You’ve got to love a drinking challenge from Gimli to Legolas (proof that Elves can take their ale) and a kicker of a punchline to PJ’s brief cameo as a Corsair.

Indulgent? Not half. Even better than the real thing? Well, we now possess the definitive articles to view back to back, again and again, while pondering the question. At any rate, we need never say goodbye.

5/5

The Extras -

Little needs to be sung of the extraordinary lengths to which the Extended Editions have gone to elucidate and charm. All the regulars are again here, inching over the minutiae across 18 separate documentaries and four commentaries. You are not left wanting.

Jackson’s honesty has been so warmly evident throughout, and again he debates missed chances, mostly undetectable touches he feels don’t make the grade. Most fascinatingly, he opens up the storytelling process to reveal an abandoned concept. At one point, they discussed Aragorn confronting Sauron in a traditional hero/villain showdown. But, for all their theorised detours from Tolkien’s path, it was to the book they satisfyingly returned at times of creative doubt.

On a more personal note for Jackson and partner Fran Walsh, there’s also a tribute to fellow Kiwi filmmaker Cameron Duncan, who died of bone cancer last summer. The closing song Into The West was dedicated to him, and his yearning short film Strike Force is included.
5/5

And gasp! There's now a six-minute preview at http://www.lordoftherings.net/homevideo ... nsExtndCut

Hooray!
Wait... NoMansExtndCut? So is this like... a Derny joke by the people who named the file?
