Mesmer turned to Sungiver and said, "Sorry about taking so long. I get carried away sometimes."

He then turned back to Kaei and asked, "Well, sorry about that misunderstanding. Tell you what. If you want to help us on this quest, I'll pay your toll to Sungiver. By the way, my name's Mesmer if you didn't already catch that."

With that, he pulled out a map and gave it to Kaei.

He then said, "This has directions for getting to Sungiver's castle since she usually likes going at extreme speeds. I'll probably be going about the same speed."

Then he took off from the ground, turned around to see if anybody else was coming, and crashed headfirst into a nearby tree. Rubbing his head, he took off again, trying not to get so distracted this time.

Leone, completely forgetting that she was in Interface, and was a large platinum dragon, burst out laughing as Mesmer hit a tree. Her laughter was sweet and happy, sounding bright and shrill compared to her normal rough chuckle. After a few minutes she glided up high into the sky and darted amongst the clouds, even now and again she would dip down, brushing a tree or startling a lone traveller as she flew.

Urth stepped outside of the mansion and threw the other half of the dust into the air to return. He was soon swept on his way again, and soon wound up near the other adventurers. A pile of dust began forming on the ground, starting in the shape of Urthdigger's foot and quickly becoming his shape. With a small flash of light, his body became whole and his color returned. He did a quick check to ensure he was all there, then yelled to nobody in particular "That's the last time I use a dust of travelling. Next time... I'm finding something else."

He shook his head. Least he could get there before she could this time and he chuckled at this. He quickly cast a teleport spell to take him back to the castle. "Well all thats left to do now is wait."

Mesmer was a little disoriented on his flight to Sungiver's castle. It could possibly be that throbbing in his head that he'd gotten from crashing headfirst into a tree. Whatever it was, Mesmer couldn't stay up in the air. After wobbling around for a little bit, he crashed into the field beneath. Unconscious, he didn't hear the serpent that was slithering ever closer to end his life.

-----

Back in the real world, Mesmer was lying sprawled unconscious on the floor. Somebody had broken his door down and gone in to attack him. He had not known about this at all as he was too submerged in the virtual reality simulation and was thus an easy victim. They had struck him on the head and smashed the part of the helmet that allowed transfer back to the real world. It was a life or death situation now. A game over would cause fatal results.

Leone searched the skies for Mesmer, after not being able to sense him for a while, she swooped down, scouting the ground with her sharpened eyesight. She soon found him, lying unconscious with a wild serpent making its way over to him. Speeding up, the snake was about to strike with its poisonous fangs. Leone swung her tail in a wide arc, sending the hooked end straight through the creature and pushing it back a few metres with the force of the blow. She quickly turned to look at Mesmer, shaking him gently with a claw she quietly called out, "Mesmer! Mesmer, can you hear me?"

Feeling something shaking him, Mesmer slowly regained consciousness. He was a little dizzy but otherwise fine.

He said to the concerned Sungiver, "I'm fine, I think. What happened?

Kayra looked to Kaei. "Wanna help them on this quest thing? Could be fun." Kayra smiled. "Happy you've earned your first marking?"

Leone shook her head, still slightly shocked by what had nearly happened, "I don't know. I couldn't see you in the sky, so I went closer to the ground and saw you lying here unconscious. A....a poisonous serpent was coming towards you, if I hadn't come, you might be watching a Game Over screen right now." She shook her head sadly, something didn't feel right. She stared at Mesmer for a few minutes, then gasped, pointing with a metallic claw, "Mesmer! Your image, it's blurring! Something must be wrong with your Interface connection!"

((WOW, this RP has gotten cool, but I am going to have to leave it. I have missed too much to catch back on, and since no one took care of my character(it is ok :) ) I am still back in the shop. So, just pretend Jak slithered away, and returned to scamming newbies :) ))

Mesmer couldn't think straight. His head was throbbing painfully. It couldn't have been because he hit the tree. He was starting to shimmer and that couldn't be a good thing. If he didn't log out the right way while in this world, he would be trapped in an empty void and never be found again.

With a startling note of fear in his voice, he said, "I don't know what's happening. I think there's a glitch in my virtual reality simulator helmet. Hold on a second while I check."

He switched the view to the main screen so he could save or log out. However, when he got there, the entire screen was flashing red.

The words that scroll across the screen said, "System malfunction. Logging out and saving options inacessible. Missing essential components. A game over will result in the physical death of character."

He switched back to the the world again and sunk down. He couldn't take risks anymore.

He tried to smile as he said, "You go on ahead. I'll be fine. Take my supplies. I think you'll need them more than I will."

He held out the sack of items he'd recently bought. If he was incapacitated, it didn't mean that the world had to stop for him. Maybe if he pleaded his case nicely the tree of demise might shield his character from enemies. That is if he survived... The Tree of Demise was about a hundred miles away.

[If I should die, which is very possible, does that end my role playing...or can I take on another character?]

After taking the map Kaei started on her way towards the castle after awhile of walking on the ground Kaei got so bored she decided to take the high road, so she climbed up a tree and continued on her way. After awhile of jumping from branch to branch (she is very athletic) she saw Mesmer. She jumped down from the tree and landed in a crouched position. Kaei walked over to Mesmer and asked him " What is the matter? You look blue."

Leone looked at Mesmer sadly, "I'm not going anywhere Mesmer. You've been my friend for so long, I'm not going to desert you now." Very carefully, she picked him up and placed him on her large back.

Kaei jumped down from a tree, and Leone looked at her quietly, "Something's wrong with his connection, I'm going to take him to my castle, could you run back to town and inform a mod that something happened to his connection? Tell them it's urgent, and that Sungiver the Appraiser sent you." Sliding a ring with an oval citrine off her claw, she tossed it to Kaei, "If they don't believe you, show them this."

With that, she took off, flying as fast as she could (which was almost supersonic) to the castle.

Kathy blinked. Apparently the character she had been talking too had ignored her and magically teleported away. "Oookay then..." she sighed to herself, then got up to leave the store.

Kyma desided to try out a teleportation spell to the castle. She held out her staff infront of her at a horizontal angle, speaking the incantation, finishing with "So mote it be!"

Imidately she knew something was wrong. It was like she had gone deaf, no longer able to hear the crowds around her. She heard a deap booming noise that resonated, with each wave of sound, a pale blue ring apeared around her feet and spread out, like ripples on a pond. She herself glowed blue, her hair streamed out behind her, even though there was no wind. Her staff glowed bright blue, and she had to close her eyes. Then, it was over. She opened her eyes, to find herself in a castle. By the looks of it, this was were the owner of the Diamond Gate dwelled. Kyma felt a little shaky, but she ignored it.

The tech's fingers flew across the keyboard as she entered various bits of data. She suddenly stopped. "Hey Lin, look at this," she said. The tech next to her looked at her screen.
"No way," he muttered, "No way a level two shaman could use that spell."
"The data doesn't lie, Lin."
Lin bit his lower lip. "I've seen level fifty shamans take on that spell, and it completly drains them of power. She doesn't even have the smallest amount of magic missing."
"What do we do?"
"Do a test on the area called Loki, past the Ruby Gate." He said, then waved over another tech. "Get a submersion helmet ready, I need to check something out."

((ooooh, plot twist, hm? um, don't ask what i'm going to do with it, since i don't know yet. And the whole glowing-blue-thingy is taken from Song of the Lioness quartet. and in answer to Syrill, if your character dies, you can have a new one. if you really want, you can control Lin...only if you really want to, though. and in courtesy to people like aster who have no idea what a tech is, it's a technician. they monitor the machines running the Interface, and when a serious problem comes up that they don't think the mods/admins can handle, they login and fix it from the inside out. hope that clears it up for ya, aster. :) ))
