There was/is a practice of putting pieces of ginger in a Tennessee Walking Horse's rectum to further make them raise their tail, which I think is horrible. There are even worse methods of getting Walking Horses to step high, involving pain. I'm not sure how common it is now, but they do still have the shows with the massive plates on the bottom of their hooves to make them step higher.

See:

And this is how they walk regularly:

They do have a running walk that isn't shown in the pic above, but it's far different from the artificial gait. At least the plates on their hooves aren't permanent, but I still don't like it.

Andddd, on topic - do any of your Danes end up deaf? I think I heard somewhere that a lot of white Danes are deaf... o_O

The practice of injuring the walking horses to make them step higher is still in effect. I read something about it in Horse Illustrated a few months ago.
They burn the feet with acid, or cut them, or put the nails in wrong and it makes them ginger; and can make them end up lame. It's disgusting really. And often at the shows people turn a blind eye to it. I hate it.
People will also cut nerves in a horses tail or inject either a numbing agent or water into the base of the tail to make it lie flat for a show.
As well as this, people will also drug horses to make them quiet for a shower (TOTALLY ILLEGAL). I have a very spooky arab who I used to show. Some days we'd be good, other days we'd be bad. It's a fact of owning a high strung horse. Deal with it. There are plenty of natural ways to help get a horse over it's fears, I don't see the need to flipping well cram it full of meds to make it 'behave'.

And i'm going to end my rant here, before I take up a lot of space.

This was taken a long time ago at my old house. o0o My family raises Great Danes so we always have one or two. The dog in the front is Kami and the dog in the back is Markus. Kami passed away a few years ago but we still have Markus. :3

Woah, I didn't mean to stir up this huge thing about cropping ears/tails here. We crop them because we believe that is how a Great Dane should look. >_< We don't do things like they are doing to those horses to make them look good though, we'd never do that to an animal. o_o But because my mom is working now and my dad can't handle taking care of puppies, we are going to stop breeding and showing them this year. We're always going to have them as pets, though.
Eidolon: Yes, most white Great Danes do end up deaf. We thought Snowpea was going to be deaf as she only had 1 or 2 spots when she was a puppy, but luckily, she could hear. O:
I don't really have any recent pictures of Markus, but I do have a picture of a puppy we have now, Hannah. We think she looks really cute with floppy ears so we're not going to crop them.

My great grandmother used to have a cat named Tinker. He was originally going to be named Tinkerbell, and then they found out he was a boy.

That's Jessie about three weeks ago. Yes, she is in a butter container. She has fun in strange ways. (Also, ignore the legs, those are mine :P)

Tailseh, your cat is sooo kwoot! I wish my cat would wear glasses. I tried to put some sunglasses on him once and he shook his head untill they came off. I like the picture of Tinker's nose smushed up against the screen. *pokes the nose* Cats are so adorable! x3
