They probably count it as a website because you can get hacked from instant messenger programs just like you can from cookie grabbers... But it still blows!

Why the heck would you put your IM screenname on the Neoboards anyway?! I wouldn't want a bunch of chatspeaking weenies trying to IM me...

Some scams tell a user to IM the person. So maybe this is why they're blocking out usernames of instant messengers.

Some people even use it to make quick trade offers.... I only give out my AIM account to those I trust anyways so it doesn't effect me.

it might be because there are so many dumbies who scam through emails with email address like mailto:Neopetstaff@hotmail.com... or scamming through instant messaging and stuff....

AIM, MSN, and so forth have been frowned upon for a long time as they are usually links for dating, scams, and otehr un-adamly stuff.

But...if ppl really wanted to do that....icky stuff then they could just do it on neopets before the monitor gets them.....its not like the monitors are slow or anything ;)....but still...they should allow it for BD and trading and stuff...maybe thats where neowebmail will come in handy....monitored chats...that would be cool!

Are you saying that it's okay to break the rules if a monitor is not around?

Actually, it's not stupid. There's too many scammers and other notso great people out there. Plus the rules say something about personal information, I do think that one is about asking for any information.

Nevertheless, it is frowned on, and it's for everyone's protection that it's frowned on. I'm sorry you got a warning, those always kind make your heart stop for a second.

I don't know what this means for the people who post for rs chats. I guess, as with anything else, only give your aim, etc. to someone you know, not just post on a board or your lookup that just anyone can contact you.

I don't think I would want to be chatting with a chatspeaking newbie. (Like Zero said)

I think part of the reason might be because they arn't allowed to link to things of an unsuitible nature for children. On AIm there is no way of controlling what children see, and Neopets doesn't want to be part of that.

I agree you shouldn't put it into the chats, but if you choose to, you should be able to.

Please refer to rant in the PinkPT blocked thread
