I saw it Friday when it came out... and other than a few moments that made you jump and seeing Ryan Reynolds hot bod..... it was just a bleh... typical ghost/haunting horror movie with cheap thrills and a sorry story.
Possible spoilers... but not really
The whole thing as to why the house was haunted was very hokey.
Seeing the ghost so much just took away from the Oooo scary factor.
It was like the 3rd time you see the ghost it's just like... "Meh.. who cares anymore".

The book rocked, but both movies were an abomination.
By the way, some kid in my class stole a "Fire Zone" sign from in front of the real Amityville house.

A MINTY VILLE HORROR - THE TALE THAT SHOOK AMERICA
It was a quiet day in the ville of Minty, but that was all about to change when a stranger rolled into town. A gruesome series of murders followed, and it was up to Timmy, Jacob, Alex and Sam to solve it, and they set off on the hunt for clues.
The problem is, they begin to realise that
they are the ones being hunted

We haven't seen it yet, and based on these reviews we may skip it. lol
I wish they would stop putting "based on a true story" on movies that are based on something that is NOT actually true. They did it with the newest remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and people were like OMG I knew someone whose uncle's friend's mother's second husband knew the cops who were killed at the end because it was REAL!! Um... no.
I've already gotten into an argument over Amityville Horror with a friend who insists that the house is really haunted. People live there now! They've experienced nothing supernatural!! It's a hoax!! *bashes head into keyboard*

My friend's father knows the people who made the hype about their house being haunted. They flat out told him it was a lie to sell books and movies and to make loads of cash. After they "fled in horror", they returned the next day to have a garage sale. Apparently, for the money-grubbing community, not even ghosts can scare them away from cash.
The story about the murders is true, though. My Grandma's Uncle Vincent knew the family because he lived in Amityville. The guy who murdered his entire family plead insanity to avoid the death penalty and is now eating Jell-O and watching Love Boat re-runs in an insane asylum somewhere. -_-

Yeah, I read about that. Pathetic.

I know, I didn't mean that part was false.

It seems in most horror movies, little girls are proned to evil demons.

I haven't seen it yet, but from these replies I may not want to waste my money on it like I wasted it on The Village. It reminds me of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which by the way stank so bad that the cushion on the seat in the theater next to me exploded.
