That's apparently how those on the East Coast of the US pronounce it -- chowda. Theirs is supposed to be better than West Coast chowder, but I've never had it.

Yeah I say chow-da too. Chow-derrrrr doesn't sound right to me. Huh. And I always claimed I didn't have this New Jersey/East Coast accent people spoke of, but perhaps I do.

I say Chowda... Mainly because I'm from Liverpool... our accent's quite prominant...
