Hmm... which stats should I generally increase while I'm still a beginner? I've already got Int to 20, but I'm not sure whether I should continue upping it or focusing on other areas like luck or strength (so I can kill the stupid big mushrooms more easily).
I'm trying to get mushroom caps, but the big mushrooms are so hard to kill. I finally killed one, but it didn't drop anything!! ='(
Most people advise against raising your strength if you're a mage unless you want to be able to use maces (which are generally only for Warriors and Magicians, I think).
As for luck, you'll want to raise that to at least your level plus three, which is the minimum if you want to wear some equipment. So if you're level 6, you want your luck to be 9, level 15 would have 18 luck, and so on.
I know it's really hard for mages to kill those big orange mushrooms...every time I tried one when I was making my mage, I either died or was ksed by a warrior-in-training. I've still got Biggs' quest as an unfinished quest on my quest window.
I had the same problem when I was making my thief because I was focusing on dexterity before strength. (BTW, since you're making a mage, don't increase your dexterity either.)
Luckily mages only have to train to level 8 instead of 10.
EDIT: Basically, just ignore Strength (unless you want to wield a Mace) and Dexterity, make Luck your level + 3, and dump all the rest into Intelligence.
