"That would be..." Janine paused, searching for the right word, "lovely!" She smiled, her soft feet were getting sore from the walking and daresay the palace people were worried, but to miss out on an adventure like this was foolishness. She gazed at the mermaid- poet, still awed be the grandeur.

[Aaaagg, Meiou poked me to post, so here I am. >.<]

Seed paused, listening to the girl and the bunny's dialogue, again. He looked at Meiou intently, before saying, "A curse, you say? I don't know about curses." He looked rather unhappy that he couldn't help someone out, and tried to flutter his wings, but they made a squelching sound. Perhaps they weren't completely dry.

"Maybe if you told me the nature of the curse," Seed said, brightening up, "I can help! I know Coralie probably more than you, traveller!"

He let the girl go. He knew she was jus making an excuse to get away from this. He couldnt blame her as so many before her had done the same. "Well the curse was cast by an old witch of my kingdom. im not sure of the whole story jus that she was upset with my father about something. It turned everyone in the kingdom into stone except me because i was already hurt with a magical wound. Instead it changed me into this form."

[Sunset? Isn't it past that already? xD]

The man was silent for a while as he looked wordlessly down at Caress's pale, tearstained face, his expression cold. Then he tightened his grip on the dagger and raised it up above his head, scarlet blade pointed directly towards Caress. Caress gasped and reeled back swiftly in fear. Her head was spinning with endless confused and terrified thoughts.

Could he be ...

"Father?" she whispered, gazing up into the man's murderous eyes.

There came a soft moan. Caress quickly looked down towards her brother. Tobias's eyes flickered open.

"Ca ... ress?" His voice was faint.

"Tobias?" she gasped. "You're alive?"

The man stared at Caress, and then unexpectedly lowered the dagger, slowly. His grip loosened and it fell, clattering to the floor. He clenched his fists as he glared hatingly at the girl. Then he turned to Tobias, and opened his right hand, his palm facing the boy. His hand suddenly glowed an unearthly black, and what seemed like a swirling black ball of darkness shot out from his hand and buried itself into Tobias's stomach, sinking through the blood-soaked shirt. A translucent black semi-circled bubble appeared around the boy's body, covering him.

Caress gaped. The man swished around and ran straight out of the front door.

Caress looked at Tobias. She was deeply relieved that Tobias was still alive, and was not worried, for even if the stomach wound was fatal, he had healing magic. She smiled at him, and reached out a hand towards him. But as soon as the tip of her finger touched upon the black bubble encasing her brother's body, she felt an immensely powerful force knock her back - she was swept off her feet and brought crashing against the wall. She flinched in pain.

"Caress!" Tobias spoke. His voice was weak, but his tone was urgent. "The black thing's absorbing my magic! I can't heal myself ..."

At once, panic seized her again. She swallowed, willing herself to calm down. Tobias would not die. He would not ...

She found that she was suddenly exhausted.

Crow? she called out. Are you there, crow?

To her relief, the crow's agitated response sounded in her head. You again, fairy. What is it now?

I'm sorry, but I need you to do something for me again. You know that black-haired boy I was with when you found me? He goes by the name Shade - I need you to find him for me! Please! This is important, my brother's been trapped by dark magic and he has light ... she pleaded.

The crow was snappy and annoyed, but he agreed.

Caress gave a small smile. Thank you very, very much, crow ...

And then she fainted.

[Eh, it seems kind of weird to call Shade back after they just split off xD Divine seeing as you seem to have your own plot in mind, you can decide when the crow finds you (or whether it finds you at all.)]

Lol jade, I guess I'll do my own plot and then the crow can find me. Your post just gave me some good ideas, though! }

(I've left the bunnyman! Perhaps I shall return! But 'tis oof to tae inn fer me, where I ken I mus' dree me weird and face the scuggan's an' a whoole bunche of blethers and oother eldritch an' hoggin hiddlins and I shall yell, "Crivens! Waily waily waily!!!"

...

Sorry, Terry Pratchett moment. Has anyone read the Wee Free Men? ^^ Tae be... excuse me, they're little 6-inch pictsies blue guys with Scottish accents :) Anyone who knows Terry Pratchett knows I haven't mispelled anything in the past paragraphs.)

(But RP wise, can someone please argue. As nice as Fawilyn is, arguing is part of who she is. She just can't argue with a cursed man who lost his home. It's just too cruel, even for her. I am heading toward the inn as default, and I shall meet this Jackdaw... for some reason, I see many arguments there.)

---

Fawilyn looked back a moment, hope she hadn't disappointed him too much. She didn't like to disappoint anyone unless she was arguing with them, and for a cursed bunny with no home, he was depressed enough. She lingered long enough to hear the last words and the embarassing squelch and pulled herself away from the conversation finally.

She forgot about the seeds. Again. Silly things they were now, and she couldn't stop thinking about rabbits, fairies, and water. Or at least wetness. Fawilyn needed a drink badly now. The inn wasn't too far off. She ran down a road, ignoring any other thirst coming into her mouth. As soon as she came in, she happened to be by the waitress and quickly swiped a glass off her tray. She blinked a moment to realize what she did and quickly put a coin on the tray. "Sorry miss," she said.

Fawilyn sat down at an already crowded table and downed her drink. It was crowded that day, and she wasn't sure waitress would pass by again any time soon. She glanced at a few other tables and stopped at a double take. While most people wouldn't have noticed, with how busy and diverse the inn was, she noticed that one table was particularly strange.

Just strange people. They were each so different than usual customers, even if it was only slight differences, or huge contrasts. This sparked some curiousity from Fawilyn. She wandered over there slowly, nothing direct. After all, some of them were a bit intimidating. She passed by, looking around, glancing at them at last. She stared at the man who was now faced her. She raised an eyebrow. "Hello... I just noticed you when you came in, you seemed familiar. Do I know you?" Yes, she was good at acting- in this case, acting as if the whole meeting these people was completely accidental, plus with the fact that she had never seen the man before.

((I have a feeling you were both waiting for me to post. =P Sorry, dad made me go help my brothers with a boyscout thing, and then when we got home my computer decided to be wacko. It still is, but I've mostly gotten past it. I think.))

"Alright, then," Terran said, grinning. "I don't have to do anything more that I know of, so we can leave right now, if you want to."

He turned once more to the shopkeeper, and bowed low. He didn't know why, but he respected her, more than he usually would have in that short period of time. "Thank you for your assistance, miss, it is very much appreciated."

{ Forcing myself to keep to every two days. But I'm sort of experiencing a weird mind-block thing and my mind is just like... floating... so don't expect my posts to be too good, really }

Shade picked at his food, not really concentrated. He felt guilty after coming home so late when he really had work to do. He had schoolwork to do, and besides, he had to read the book that Raynault had gave him. His parents talked endlessly, but he absorbed nothing of their conversation.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Shade looked up curiously as his dad rushed to open the door. "Mr. Llucen?" the man at the door called. He was quite young, with brown hair and shining amber eyes. "Sorry to disrupt you, but Raynault sent me. He told me to come contact you at once. He wants you to meet him at his place of residence." His eyes slid to Shade, who looked away, back to his plate. "And bring your son."

Shade's eyes gleamed with surprise. Why did Raynault want to see him again, and so urgently? Couldn't he wait until the next day? He would have had a lesson with him anyways. "Okay," Shade heard his father reply, a little annoyed. "We have to finish our dinner."

"He wants you to come immediately. It's very urgent," the messenger said in a harsh tone. "So if you'd please come outside, my carriage is waiting."

Shade's mother looked towards her husband, and then her son, confused. Shrugging, his father motioned for them to do as the man said. Outside, the sun had finally set. Involuntarily, Shade created a small ball of light, illuminating the carriage. It was shaped like a pumpkin, and Shade smiled as he thought of Cinderella, a fairy tale which he used to read. It was about a girl who believed that dreams came true, and one day, her fairy godmother came and granted all her wishes. Why can't my life be like that? he thought, as he climbed onto the back on the carriage while his parents sat on the opposite side, but he immediately forgot all the unhappy things as the carriage began moving smoothly, the sounds of the horses' trots reaching his ears.

He lay his head on the red, velvet seat. Outside, a crow squacked, flying past the carriage. It seemed to be heading towards his home. He closed his eyes. It was going to not going to be a shorttrip; the carriage didn't actually move too quickly, and there was nothing to do inside the carriage. He'd rather walk.

Time flew by. Again he heard the sound of the crow. "Is that the same one?" he wondered, as he passed by the house of Caress. He gritted his teeth. He really should have stayed behind to help, the girl looked in such distress. I will go later, he thought. I'll explain to my mother and father what had happened, and they will agree with me that I should have went and saw what happened. I hope they won't be mad at me for leaving lesson early.

With nothing to do, Shade opened the book Raynault had gave him and randomly flipped through the pages. He examined the different chapters of the book, then flipped to the index, where he tried to find help on using light magic. Quickly finding the page, he flipped to it, expecting to see what Raynault had always told him, but he found something else instead. "Light magic, although stemming from hope and faith, is deeply empowered by love."

"Love"? Shade repeated in his mind. What is it like to be in love? he wondered, staring through the window again, daydreaming

As Shade was reading, his parents were whispering. "Why is he so distant from us?" his mother said, so quietly that only her husband could hear.

Her husband shook his head, motioning to Shade. "You have to remember he's adopted... but of course he doesn't know that." He turned his head away from his wife, and they spoke no more.

((aiya i really shouldn't have backed myself into a sestina corner. i absolutely adore sestinae, but they drive me quite mad when i'm writing them. oopsies. and my apologies for being inactive et cetera et cetera. my (lame) excuse is no longer Charles Dickens, but James Joyce. He confuses me sooooo much. alas!

oh, and might i mention that i have no bloody clue as to where Maddox is headed? for all i know, she's running off into the sunset. eh.))

Maddox paused before asking in rhyme,
"From where do you come hither?
For if I am to speak true
I would think that you knew
Quite well the land by the river.

I am curious you see,
For I collect a small fee
Whenever I perform a long rhyme

After all, as a minstrel
My art is my life
And it brings me trouble and strife
And can't really live off of tinsel"

The boy rose to his feet, picking up his stave and slinging his satchel over his shoulder. The dog rose as well, pushing the door open with his nose and slipping out into the cool night air. The child followed, pushing open the door and standing on the steps, holding it open and looking expectantly toward Terran.

((Apologies for the shortness. ><))

{ I think lionheartwitty might be moving, it was in the Misc. Disc. board. Requiem and Mandy are nowhere to be seen, though. Anyways, jade I'm coming!! =P Another long post! (ok this is freaky. Raynault now reminds me of Dumbledore...) Lots of plot here, hope it helps, Lilac! }

Shade was roused from his thoughts as the carriage stopped aruptly, the screeches of wheels accompanied by the rather frightening neighs of horses. His father and mother shuffled out of the carriage, and Shade hurriedly stuffed the golden book into his backpack before following his parents. His father held onto his arm as Shade descended down the steps, and for a second, Shade met his eyes, and felt a deep love for him that would never diminish. Returning his father's smile with one of his own, he quickly stepped down. The messenger was impatient. Slipping off one of the horses (another man, who Shade assumed to be the driver, was seated on another horse), he walked to the door of the small house in rather large strides, arms swinging grandly as well. He stopped in front it and knocked loudly three times.

"Come in," said Raynault's voice. The messenger opened the door and made gestures for them to come in hurriedly. Shade stared at him. He was a bit taller than himself, and he couldn't help notice his rather strange amber eyes.

Raynault noticed their approach. "Clien. Please show Shade's parents to the dining room and make them a nice cup of tea. I would like to speak to Shade personally." Turning his back on the group, he made a beckoning motion with his arm, and headed upstairs. Shade willingly followed, footsteps echoing in the dim stairway.

Raynault opened the door, which was embedded with a design of a glass star, summoned a bit of light in his arms and infused it into a large rock, so that it emitted light and brightened the whole room. He sat down onto a couch facing the window, and motioned for Shade to come next to him.

Shade stepped forward, apprehensive. As he approached Raynault's right side, he noticed a small tear on his cheek, sliding down his white beard, finally landing on the ground. If it did make a sound, Shade thought, it would have been a very soft sound of light indeed. And it would echo on and on forever...

"My elder brother, Renault, has just died."

Shade was silent for a moment, then moved in front of his tutor and hugged him. "He didn't suffer much, did he?"

"No, he didn't. He died of old age."

Shade squeezed his tutor tighter, burying his head into Raynault's long blue cloak.

Raynault sighed. "Although his life has ended, this does not mean he had not put it to good use. Death is not always a bad thing," he added, managing a smile. "But he will live on in the hearts of the people that love him." Raynault slipped his hand through the handle of the cup, taking a long sip.

"He made a prophecy before he died."

"A prophecy?"

"A prediction of the future," Raynault said simply. "It concerns you, I believe."

"Me?"

"Yes, you. You and the Shadow."

"The Shadow?"

Raynault smiled. "You have many questions, Shade. Mind you, keep on asking them. I want you never to stop." Taking another sip of tea, he continued. "The Shadow. The ruler of the Dark. As it says in the prophecy."

"Can I see the prophecy?"

"The prophecy was made as he was dying. Unfortunately, there was only one witness, as his student was away on an excursion with his parents at that time. This witness was his grandson, Clien. He was visiting him at the time. He did not remember everything he heard, and could only recall some of the more important parts."

"So... that man downstairs is your brother's grandson?"

"Yes, Shade. He is only sixteen, barely older than you are."

"How was I referred to in the prophecy?"

"You were referred to as the Peacekeeper of the Light and the Dark. Clien heard this and he thought about you at once."

"Why?"

"Shade, I will explain later, but you will see that it makes perfect sense. I had to contact you as soon as possible, as anything could have happened at any second..."

Tap. tap. tap. Raynault and Shade looked simultaneously to the window. There, hovering in the air, was a crow, beak tapping urgently against the glass of the window.

"Ah... fate calls." Raynault strode to the window and opened it quickly. The crow flew it and circled Shade's head, than flew back out of the window, squacking loudly. Shade looked at Raynault, who looked back at him with his deep blue eyes. "He wants you to follow it. Go. I will explain to your parents."

Shade nodded, muttered a quick goodbye, and ran downstairs, pushing open the door and shutting it again. He held his jacket close to his body, as the wind was picking up and it was getting rather cold. Outside was dark, and he could hardly pick out the crow from against the purple sky, but instead followed the sound of its cries. Where am I going? Why do I have to go? he thought, but wasted no time. It became apparent later that he was approaching Caress's house. It made perfect sense. Caress must have communicated with the crow and asked it to come get him. Get me for what? he thought, and remembered how Caress had ran away so quickly before. Come to think of it, I remember a crow there, squacking before she left. He picked up his pace. "Caress!! I'm coming!!" He shouted out loud.

Reaching her house, he flung open her door, using his other hand to summon up an orb of light. Caress lay on the ground, her hair spread over the ground, her eyes closed. The light from his orb illuminated her face in a strange way, and Shade feared that she might be dead. It would all be his fault... why didn't he follow her to see what was wrong? The Nearby lay a boy... trapped in a black... bubble? Shade approached Caress, pushing her body carefully. "Caress!! Wake up!! Wake up!!"

{ I used the word "door" so many times there! I don't have plans for this "Shadow" guy, but still =P. }

Terran glanced once more about the store, then walked past the boy and out the door. He started slowly along the path, kicking a pebble that he saw in front of him.

"It's not far to my Inn, no more than a mile and a half, I should say. The path is fairly straight and smooth... there's one rough spot, but it's not that long. And not really that rough, either..." his voice trailed off slightly, and he was silent for a moment.

"I'm Terran, by the way. It is nice to meet you, young sir."
