Brooke has a distinct facial structure that reminds me of Down syndrome, though it's obvious she doesn't actually have it. One of her eyes also seems to be lazier than the other. I love how the voice-over talks about genetic research--yeah right, not in this country!

We're run by a man who used his only veto so far to strike down a bill that could help thousands, maybe millions of people because he's so sure he knows exactly when life begins.
Also, at the very end Brooke's siblings are mentioned, but only in passing. Does that mean they don't have this mysterious syndrome?
That's not nearly as disturbing, though, as something I saw on Something Awful a little while back, though. In fact, Brooke's story was downright heartwarming compared to this. It was so horrifying I won't link to it, but it was posted on August 4 if anyone's interested--go to News Archives, choose August 2006, and select "I'm here to ruin your day". Basically, one girl called Juliana Wetmore has a terrible, terrible deformity that renders her unable to breathe (she has a trach tube for that), eat, or talk. It's called Treachers Collins syndrome and I don't recommend you Google it if you're weak stomached.
But she has normal intelligence. That's the worst part, don't you think? Of course, TV news crews in her home (Jacksonville, FL) just adore putting her story on TV. It feels a little exploitative for my tastes. "Look at the girl with no face! Marvel at her inadequacies and then give her family money!"
That's just my .02 cents.
