That and it's the 7th book, so it being released on 7/7/07 would've been super cool. But noooo. >_>

By the way, whats with the 777 thing? o_O (I'm not into Harry Potter obviously)

I shall be depressed for a few days following my completing the book. Then I shall rejoice and remember about the wonders of fanfiction! ;D

And you should get into HP- it's magically delicious.

The interesting plot (up until HBP, the sixth book, anyway) and cool characters are just a plus. :P

I believe that there was a minor leak on HBP, because the betting on who died in the book had a sharp spike for Dumbledore(this was limited to a few towns in England) about two weeks or a month before the release. Granted, that could've been due to people going "Oh yeah, the wise old wizard with the beard always dies," but I think it was probably leaked.
And of course, if you work at a bookstore, sometimes you can convince the manager to let you take a peek at the display book if they have one. I remember someone on another forum talking about how they got to sneak a look at the book the day before release, and they flipped to the back and found out Dumbledore died.
Personally, I'm content to wait until I get the book and then just tear through it.

Yeah, someone managed to get a hold of a copy a week or so before it was released, and posted on loads of different online HP communities "Snape kills Dumbledore on page XXX" (X'd out because I can't be bothered to search for one of my copies of HBP and then look through and find the exact page). Second the book was released, the people who'd been spoiled immediately flipped to said page and found that yes, it was true.

This would be precisely the reason why I am not letting go of my copy of DH to do anything, including sleep, until I've finished it. So what if I'm up until 6 AM reading it? At least I won't have the chance of being spoiled online.

Also, Harry makes friends with the Giant Squid and he and Ron begin spending time with it, only to later find that their inattention to their girlfriends has left Ginny and Hermione to fall in love with each other, leaving he, Ron and the Giant Squid heartbroken (the Giant Squid is a copycat). The Giant Squid is actually, it is revealed, Godric Gryffindor in animagus form, locked in said form for hundreds of years. And BTW, Mrs. Norris is Lily Potter.

stiiilllll joking.

i dont understand the peopel that buy the book and then read the end before the beginning. it makes no sence to me. i remember people doing that when hbp was released. as i said, it makes no sence to me.

I went through a phase when I was little when I did that, but it only lasted for a few months. I guess people just feel impatient- they what to know what they think is the most important part- the ending. Which is silly, as doing so makes you base your entire opinion of the book on a few sentences or pages.

Another reason not to do it- I find that many good books have poor or otherwise unsatisfying endings, whereas some bad books have fantastic endings. It's weird, but it happens. :/

ETA: haha, I just realized the sheer amount of posts I'm contributing to this topic. I guess I'm overly enthusiastic due to my not being able to talk much about HP or, well, books in general to people on a regular basis. :P

Too bad there isn't a July 49th.

Just preordered it at Borders. It's only going to be $20.99 there if you preorder =).

I can't wait. I read the first four books twice, and I want to reread OOTP before the movie comes out and HBP.

I'm going to stay up for the release party.I've already read all the books over 40 times,I need to read them all again before the next book and movie.

I am so excited for this, although sad that the series is actually ending.

Wed Feb 07, 2007 3:42 am

Wow, I didn't even know the name until now! I'm definitely going to stay up at Midnight for this one! I'm not looking forward to it, though, cause it'll be the end of the series.

...or will it? (dun da dun!!)

Yes. :P

JKR's pretty much confirmed it with posts on her website- posts that have almost reduced me to tears because there is nothing sadder than an author mourning the end of a book series they wrote. *tear*

(okay, there are lots of things sadder, but SHUSH it is a hyperbole)

Brilliant! Just in time for my birthday too. What is better than getting a Harry Potter book? Getting one as a gift. :D

It's probably also a plus that you're not the one spending $35 USD on it. ;)
