What do you think was Neopia's golden age?
I've been a member of Neopets since before the first Dr. Sloth plot, so even though I lost interest some years ago, I've still seen my fair share of Neopian history.
I think Neopets reached its zenith midway through the first Meridell plot, when it was revealed that Meridell took the orb from Darigan and a massive wave of people turned against Meridell in the Battledome. (I wasn't one of them; I figured they were going to pull another switcheroo. Neener, neener.) It had been at heady heights for a while, and remained strong for quite a while thereafter - let's say since the destruction of Maraqua, up until the Maraqua plot that had nothing to do with the whole destruction thing.
Before that period, it was too simple, and afterward, it was too commercial.
How about you guys? What would you say is Neopia's golden age?

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

I haven't been around for so long (joined January 12, 2009), but I think Neopia's Golden Age was early in the start of the game, circa 2001.

2004 + 2005 were good years. '04 we had NeoQuest II, Battle for Meridell, Hannah and the Ice Caves. '05 there was Curse of Maraqua, Lost Desert Plot, and the video game Neopets: The Darkest Faerie. Next year is when the Altador Cup came round, Shenkuu, and Tale of Woe, that amazing piece of interactivity. Still, those two years really stood out for me.

I look back fondly on the days before the autorefreshing ad pages. So, anytime before about 2008.

And I thought it was bad when I heard Jelly World was on the world map!

I started in 2001.
I'd say from about 2001-2005 - before Viacom bought it. 2003-2004 were especially good IMO

What? Really? Oh dear... All that time I spent convincing people of its non-existence, ruined...
I don't exist. omo

Aww I miss the old days
I think 2001-2002 was a golden age, and then there was a mini one in 2004-2005. After that it was sort of meh. But I'm a sucker for the plots, so if the plots aren't decent, I'm apt to think it was dreadful. But those were good times, man, good times.
Artwork was best in 2001, I think
I'm not a fan of most of the new artwork.

Re: What do you think was Neopia's golden age?
I think I was having the most fun from 2003-2005, which is mostly when my friends were playing too. I've been playing since January 2002 though. I stopped logging in daily around a year or two ago, and only now come on about every month. I'm just spending all of my np on neggs/training and then once that all runs out I think I'll be done for good.
I think the customization and complete revamp of the site was the nail in the coffin for a lot of people, whenever that was. 07? Viacom (looked it up, hah, that was 05) had a chance but blew it. Hard.
Currently my mom is the only one I know who plays at all regularly. Even then, she just plays her daily games. She doesn't care about news, plots, customizing, etc.

And there's nothing really wrong with that. For some people, it's a place to play light-hearted and cute games. Nothing wrong with using it as such at all. Shame I don't game that much anymore, though I could easily jump back on the wagon.metalmario wrote:Currently my mom is the only one I know who plays at all regularly. Before all the sponsors came in, it was good.
