The caretaker's place - it (randomly?) replaces the "angry caretaker" and "which book is it?" conversations, and maybe the "you should be looking for a name" message too.

yeah i think that last part should've been Brain Tree? They're supposed to give the Esophagor the spirit's name, not when he died right? ANd then then Esophagor will tell them when the Spirit died so they can tell the Brain tree.
now i think i'm confusing myself.

You're right, they messed up. But a bigger problem is that once the Esophagor tells them when the Spirit of Slumber died, they can go tell the Brain Tree, who will tell them the Spirit's real name. But the Brain Tree didn't promise any more info than the real name, so they (we) might be going through all this work desecrating graves just to find out what we already deduced from desecrating all these graves!

anyone else notice when they're crossing off names lately that they've crossed off the last name in that book? because the last two names i've gotten had been the last two in the books (eating and sleeping)

Okay I am confused... By going to every grave and marking off the names the last one left will be the Spirit of Slumber, right? Well then we don't need the Brain Tree at all right? Because he couldn't tell us anything that we didn't already know. Right?
Just trying to make that what I am thinking is correct or if I missed something.

Well, this time around, i don't see how anyone can possibly get better than others.. as no-one's going to be able to identify the spirit's tombstone, as it'll be the last one - the one we can't do.. (Did that even make sense?)
So hopefully, this time around, there won't be the same debarkle as what happened with heavenest..

There's no way anyones getting credit for this tast like Heavenest did.
There'd be no way to do that. We all have been crossing off names, and we can't cross the SoS's name off.. hence.. No one person wins! :D

BUT there can be a person who crosses off the last name and find out the Spirit of Slumber's name!
But that person's username might not be shown...maybe you're right... Who knows? Well, at least not me! :P

Yeah! That was a way better explanation than mine.. Made more sense, too!

Well, i've finally managed a few graves, but not too many.. I suppose that's enough for me..

I think the conversations we had with the brain tree and the esophagor were just to point us in the right direction - I don't think we'll need their help once we find out who it is - Sophie's planning on making a potion to help out isn't she?

Assuming there is just one long list of names...

And an average of 20 names x 5 pages per book...

And if I'm not mistaken, 365 days in the neopian calander...

There are a total of 36500 names. Which is very... low.
AGREE!!!

But there's also different books for each year ;)

I guess we're lucky it's relatively organised... Imagine if we had to search through each individual book.... they could have done that to us you know
