What are you going to be when you grow up? (Or, job help)

I'm leaning more toward becoming a doctor, but it all depends on which college I get into. If I get into the Air Force Academy or this school down in Florida, then I'll study Aerospace Engineering and work toward becoming an astronaut, or atleast working for NASA in some way.

My brother is the one that has goals. He wants to conquer Luxemborg, become a teacher just for the chance to emotionally scar children, and continue his pipe-organ career.

I'm actually in school to be a radio personality.

I originally went to school for musical theater/vocal performance. Then I decided I didn't want whether I ate or not to be hinged on whether or not I had a gig tomorrow :s

Acting can be hard, but it's something that I personally would reccomend as a hobby until older years. But that's just my opinion

Acting is possibly the most difficult proffesion to get into. I disagree with those who say to leave it until you are older. I think you have to start young. You have to have something different that separates you from all the other millions of wannabe actors and you have to ask yourself what this is and what you are willing to give up for it. Ruthlessness is a must. You also have to have a certain amount of luck and be in the right place at the right time. I'd suggest audition after audition after audition. Get involved with youth theatre groups in your area and read newspapers for upcoming show in your area.

I want to dance. Deep down, I've always wanted to dance but realism held me back. Biggest mistake of my life. I should have left school a year ago to go to college but I didn't want to leave my friends but I didn't. Now I'm going for my dreams way too late. That little year means one year off a very short-running career anyway. I've had to sacrifice my friends, some hobbies and WAY too much money to get where I am now. Basically, I'm single minded. I know there's a very, very slim chance of me getting anyway within the dance profession but the one thing that keeps me going is that I see loads of girls less talented and less dedicated than me, get into great stage schools like Lane, Arts Ed and London Stage. If I can just work hard enough at college for two years to get into at least one of these Unis or schools, I'll be more happy than I can say!

Wow, that seems really neat Eo. I hope you get an acting job somewhere, that would be another famous PPTer added to the list.

As for me, I don't know what I want to be. I secretly want to be something but I won't tell anyone what it is (It's nothing dirty, relax) but I wouldn't mind becoming a high school teacher or university proffessor. I love to teach.

So basically you want her to throw away her childhood? There are thousands of negative effects to that- just look at Michael Jackson. I doubt what happened to him happens to everyone in the situation, but I personally think that growing up too fast and getting a career when you should be enjoying not having one is going to seriously mess you up.

Acting is a career which you have to be 100% dedicated to, even when young. Casting directors often look for experience as well as natural talent, they like to know you can cope with pressure.

I've danced twice a week since I was 2 and took part in competitions all over England. Doesn't mean I didn't have fun. Yes sometimes I felt like I was missing out on stuff but I wouldn't change it for the world.

Being part of a drama group and finding an agent so you can be a "movie star" are two very, very different things.
