I'm only playing because I figure it's a sponsor game and I am trying to reach 500 games played to get the avatar. It seems on the surface like it would be stupidly easy, but I am having a booger of a time and I am not willing to just give up.

The object of the first round is to collect five superstar (or whatever) cards. It's always a different number of cards at the shop. This whole thing is timed by-the-way. Then I randomly buy a few more cards to "trade." It costs points to buy cards and to "travel" to different locations and offer trades to cartoon characters with no names or souls. They never ever ever accept my offers and I always run out of time with zero points.

I need at least one point so it can count as one of my 500 games.

You only need 250 scores to get the avatar, unless they have changed that.
To make trades at that game, you need to check the number of red bars the card has. People will only accept if the card you want has the same or less bars that the one you are offering. If you want to trade more than one card, the same rule applies to the sum of the bars the cards have.
For instance, you can change 2 superstar cards (1 bar each) for 1 ace pitcher card (2 bars).

It was very confusing at first, but now that I know what I'm doing, this game is actually kinda fun lol

Sometimes if you're lucky the card shop clerk will have most of the cards that you need.
