Yahoo mail's response to Gmail by google

Tue Jun 15, 2004 10:27 am

You've heard how Google is revolutionsing free email by offering 1GB space for all free email accounts and what not?

Yahoo mail fought back today by offering 2 GB mail for all paid accounts ($20 a year) and removed all their ads.

I wonder what will happen now. Personally I think if Google had released their free mail earlier, they would've done so much better, but that's not saying they won't do well when gmail is finally released.

That's why competition is good, it keeps people on their toes :) I'm honestly don't know for sure if Google will be able to mantain what they are offering now, 1GB is a lot when it comes to storage space for free email. I can only imagine that would put a huge strain on the servers, basically because everyone will want to get one.

I love having 100 MB of storage space and being able to send files big enough as 10 MB all for free :D Maybe I'll start using my Yahoo email more often.

Google makes my Hotmail account look particularly pathetic today... >.>

*makes a face* I think I'd go for Google instead of Gmail, simply because it's free and 1GB is a lot. Then again, I always liked Google better than Yahoo. I call Yahoo "the Google rip-off".

Competition is indeed awesome. Yahoo is now giving me me:

Increased storage capacity – from your current level to 100MB
Increase in total message size to 10MB
A streamlined interface that's even easier to use

Keep it coming. 8)

But Gmail isn't released yet right?

And anyway, 1GB is ALOT... My entire computer hardly needs 3gb...

maybe thats why I had such a hard time signing onto yahoo this morning. Everyone was checking out the upgrade lol

I'll stick with my wi.rr account. No limitations period, and it's one payment for the whole house, which includes internet, so I don't have to pay. XD Personally I think all email things like Gmail and Hotmail are a waste of time.. I only use the hotmail so I have MSN messanger.

I just noticed that my yahoo accounts went from 6 (or 4 depending when I signed up) MB to 100 MB this morning.... Needless to say, I'm pleasantly surprised!!
I wonder how they did it though -- that is one hell of a lot of webspace to be giving out to already registered users. Gmail is only doing it by invitation, so there are hardly as many people to work with as Yahoo has... although I guess that explains the 100MB to 1GB, not that anyone would ever need that much space. I hardly used the 6MB I was allotted.

I though Yahoo! imploded or something because neither the main site nor the mail site would load. I think that's awesome that it increased to 100 MB, though I used like 8% of my 6 MB quota. I would love to get Gmail, but I already have two other e-mail accounts: one at austin.rr.com (comes with internet), and one for my fan site.

I'm not sure. I get really confused on sizes. I thought mbs was the highest. How much mb is in a gb?

Tue Jun 15, 2004 8:20 pm

So that's why I couldn't sign into my Yahoo account last night-they must've been making improvements or something..

I like the changes, and even though I like google better than yahoo (search engine wise), I'll just keep my yahoo account now.

Well, I get SBC Yahoo DSL, so 2GB of storage is only $9.99 a month. But who needs all that space anyway? I don't even think Neopets does... =P

The yahoo mail looks very cool, its blue :D
