Anyone got a better strategy?

Sat Jul 17, 2004 5:57 am

Try as I might, no strategy for Cellblock on the PPT page works for me. Does anyone have a personal strategy they use? All I want is my Avatar!!

I used the strategies on the PPT site. What round are you on? I found that once in a while the computer changes its startegy a bit and it gets hard to beat.

I'm only on round five, but every time I try to use the strategies on PPT, the computer chooses a different move. Perhaps TNT changed the generated moves...

I don't know if it will help but there is a Cellblock strategy here: http://home.neopets.com/templates/homep ... ame=kurnen

Galgarrath beat me even with that strategy :( PPT's strategy beat me number 5, but Galgarrath just blocked PPT's strategy.

EDIT: I just had a draw and it was counted as a loss! :x

A couple of strategies I am using are:

First couple of rounds:
Try to go for 5 in a row using your initial 2 pieces as a starting point. I've noticed that sometimes the CPU player will make a mistake and let you take it.

If not, try to get 2 or 3 rows of 3 pieces. This sometimes confuses the CPU and lets you win because when you place the fourth one it might block one of the other rows.

More advanced CPU players:

Try setting up two lines that cross over.

Code:
OOOOO
OXOOO
OXOOO
OXXXO
OOOOO

Or better still
Code:
OOOOO
OXOOX
OXOXO
OXXOO
OOOOO

You probs all know these but I hope they help.

EDIT:

What is probs an even better idea with the tougher CPUs is to form blocks of your pieces:

Code:
OOOOO
OXXOO
OXXXO
OOXOO
OOOOO

This seems to really confuse the CPU.

That strategy has always worked for me. You see, even if the strategy it points out is blocked, it usually opens up multiple ways to make the winning move. Just remember, when you see three spots in a row and not blocked on any end, it's just as good as having four spots in a row and unblocked on either end. this is because you can turn those three spots into four spots easily, and then the computer will only be able to block the one end, meaning you win next turn.

This is the stategy I created. I came up with it, the day it was released, it's the best I've seen. 7 moves. ^_^

I'm so smart. :roflol:

I just beat Grarrgrath with that :D Onto guard 2!

EDIT; Beat him with kurnen's strategy. I tried Kurnen's strategy on Vex, but Vex goes on defensive as well as try too attack. Anyway, he blocked Kurnen's strategy but wasted him with a secret win he didn't see :P

I've got a tie: 1-1 :o No wonder they call him a master...

I'm up to Number Five the second time (match 3/5, I've gotten the bronze trophy already). Darn I'm being wasted by him! I won the first time, lost the second, and he's kept me no the defensive so far. If I lose I'll need to win thr last 2 games...

O.o I always use the strategy I found on PPT, unless the computer does something stupid (like place a peice in a random corner), or in the very beginning, ignores my careful plans of drawing it out and starts going straight for 5 in a row instead. Then I usually lose against it, but it's very rare. You must be incredibly unlucky. O.o

I dunno why PPT's strategy doesnt work for you all, it worked for me and my 2 brothers

Well I'm on Haskol now, and not one strategy works for me. *sigh* Guess I'll have to create a strategy for myself!
